Last chapter continued !! : ) I split it up into two shorter ones because it was getting long!
Avoiding Isaac for the rest of the evening, Klara and I holed up in Jameela's room, playing endless rounds of Sorry after we had taken our dinner upstairs.
"Sorry, not sorry," Klara laughed, knocking over one of Jameela's pieces with a cackle.
"Dang," Jameela said unenthusiastically, resting her head on the foot of her unmade bed. Her room looked a lot messier since I had last seen it – water bottles lining her nightstand, a basket of unmade laundry near her dresser, half a bag of chips discarded on the floor.
"What's wrong?" Klara's face fell slightly. "You love competing in this game. If it makes you feel better, I think we're both going to whoop Stella in this."
"Hey," I protested. Jameela leaned forward, bringing her knees to her chest, and rested her chin on them.
"I'm just feeling blue," she said dully.
"See, why does blue get such a bad rep?" Klara commented. "Can't people say they're feeling purple? That is such a worse colour. Blue is so nice."
"What's making you blue?" I asked.
"I don't know, I'm just having an off day. Well, an off couple of days. I hate my job, and it feels like I literally have no purpose."
"Oh babe," Klara said, scooting closer to her. "I know it feels that way right now, but this job will be temporary, and you'll find a better job soon enough."
"Yeah," I said, reaching out to hold her hand. "You absolutely have a purpose; you maybe just haven't found your passion yet."
"Yeah, I guess. I feel like I don't have the energy to look for a new job though. Plus, my boss would be mad at me if I quit, and I need the money."
"Hmm, that is tough. Do you want us to offer solutions? Or are you in a more of a vent mood?" Jameela pursed her lips, sitting up a little taller.
"You sound like Dr. Kahn right now," she laughed. "But I think I would like some solutions."
"Amazing." Klara clapped her hands together, whipping the board game shut and pouring the pieces in the box. "I have a different activity for us to do then."
"Hey, I was winning at that," Jameela said. Klara made a funny face at her.
"Sooorry," she laughed, getting up and disappearing out of the room. She came back a few moments later, laptop in hand. "We are going to find you a new job missy." Sinking back to the floor, she typed for a few moments, brows knit together, and passed Jameela the computer.
What is it?" I asked. Jameela snorted, eyeing Klara.
"It's a 'What job should I have' quiz. Do you really think this will be useful?"
"Doesn't hurt to try," she pointed out.
"Fine. Will you guys clean my room too? I have no energy right now." She smiled sweetly at us, eyebrows raised.
"Absolutely," I said. "I love cleaning."
"Right, me too," Klara said sarcastically, but stood up and started folding her clothes anyways.
The room looked in much better shape when we were done with it. I opened the window for a finishing touch, letting some fresh air in.
"I'm finished," Jameela called, from where she had moved to the foot of her bed.
"Alright lady let's see the results," I said, flopping down next to her. Klara moved to her other side, crouching next to the crowded bed. Hitting submit, we all looked eagerly at the screen, awaiting her results.
"Hmm," Jameela said, looking at her number one recommendation. "Psychologist. That seems super on brand for me actually."
"Yeah," Klara chimed in. "I could actually see you doing that."
"So, what do you think?" I asked.
"I think I could actually do that," she said, closing the laptop, a small smile forming on her face for the first time all evening. "Guys, I think I should."
"Yes, you absolutely should!" Klara insisted, taking the laptop back from her. "Ladies, we have an answer."
"I'd have to go back to school for it though. Maybe I have time to enroll for September?"
"Probably. I'm sure there's lots of places you could get a psychology degree at."
"I bet my parents would help chip in for it too. They always wanted me to go to school."
"That's awesome," I said. "I'm sure they'll be thrilled to hear it."
"Wait, what if I'm rushing into thinking about this? I might just be working myself up over nothing. I'm not sure I would even be good at psychology."
"Jameela," Klara said. "Don't even worry about that. Look, you can think about this for a little while even. You don't have to have everything set in stone right now. What matters is that you find something that you're happy with."
"Good point," Jameela hummed, nodding her head. "Well, that is enough productivity for one night. Can we watch a movie now or something? I have the energy for one now."
"Absolutely my friend."
