Time doesn't heal, that's a lie.

Two Years Later

He was simply going through the motions.

Time truly passed differently when one has lost their meaning in life. He was like a ghost drifting from one room to another, dealing with border issues, paperwork, and then sleeping. He slept a lot, actually, and it made him feel all the emptier.

He was empty inside and he had never recovered since that day his brothers had died. It didn't matter that his pack had forgiven him, and still trusted him to lead them. He had set out on a search, far and wide, for someone worthy of the title.

It was funny because every wolf he addressed, he saw greed.

Greed had torn his family apart. Ruined his life. He found himself turning farther and farther away from hope. He felt as though he would never find someone worthy of the title. Someone who didn't have greed in their eyes. Yet, someone who knew of pain, and they could handle it. Perhaps even someone who thought of themselves unworthy.

He was basically looking for a better version of himself.

He had been searching for two years for a worthy wolf to lead his pack. His brothers. He might not be worthy to lead them anymore but he certainly wouldn't leave them with someone who wasn't. He had gone back to Fox and General, begging them to simply take the title, and every time they declined. Every single one of the pack members declined.

Even over the past two years, as more brothers joined them and they grew to a pack thrice the size of what they once were, he couldn't find a single soul who wanted the title and had no greed. His entire pack still saw him worthy to be an Alpha, loyal as they were.

A tired sigh passed his lips as he dragged a hand down his face.

Suddenly, Fox mind-linked him, 'Alpha, we have visitors approaching the southern border.'

He groaned. If he was being honest, he was tired of wolves showing up in seek of an alliance. Just as he was searching for a worthy wolf, he only saw greed in others seeking an alliance. He was convinced that greed was the downfall of every being.

For a moment, he was tempted to tell Fox to handle it, but something twisted in his stomach. It was like a gut instinct, and he felt like he needed to go. With a sigh, he dragged himself out of his chair and left his office. 'I'm on my way,' He told his Gamma.

He shifted into his wolf and began running through the forest he had once loved with all his heart. It had once been his home, and he savored every scent that greeted him, but now it all felt out of place.
