Nickels. The word could mean a lot. It could mean the metal, that was almost impossible to break. It could mean the coin that was worth a pretty penny. It also could mean the coin, that if you weren't careful with, could slip through your fingers and down the gutter.

It could also mean one of the most feared newsies in all of New York.

Nickels could be found in the Bronx. But they didn't own it. The Bronx was Emerson's turf. Nickels just... made sure that no one got through. Another reason why Nickels was so infamous was that they were a one-man show. They didn't have any cronies or soldiers that obeyed their every command. They worked alone. How? Nobody knew.

Sometimes, other newsies would see Nickels near the lodging house or at the counter buying papes. But then, Nickels wouldn't show up for another two weeks at least. It was always the talk of the city.

The main reason why Nickels was so famous and feared, is that they were a mystery.

No one knew where Nickels slept. No one knew where Nickels sold.

No one knew who Nickels really was.

And of course, no one knew that Nickels was really a girl. And her name was Y/n.

No one, except Spot Conlon.
