Say Somehing Part 3

Almost a month had passed since Carson had been kidnapped and Johanna had come back into their lives. She and Kate had been staying in contact over the weeks and Johanna said she would soon be able to come back to New York. Kate stood in the kitchen on morning cutting fruit for breakfast while Rick fed Carson. There was a knock at the door and the looked at each other.
"Are you expecting someone?" Rick asked standing up.
"No" Kate said rinsing off her hands.
Rick got up going to get the door.
"Johanna" He said with a smile, Kate looked towards the door.
"What are you doing here? I didn't think you were going to be here till the weekend?" Kate asked walking over to the door.
"I came early, my stuff should be here this weekend but, I didn't want to spend to much time away when there's no reason for me to be there." Kate smiled.
"Why don't you come in, we're making breakfast." Rick said letting Johanna in.
"Thank you" She smiled coming inside. She looked around then to Kate who laughed.
"I know" She smiled reaching her arms out, Johanna smiled hugging her tightly. They stayed like that till Carson started to fuss from his chair.
"Never fails" Rick laughed.
"Yeah and you say he's not your son" Kate replied.
"I have no idea what you're talking about Kate" He smirked looking back at her while he got Carson from the high chair.
"Want some coffee?" Kate asked moving to the kitchen.
"I would love some" Johanna said going to the bar stool.
"So what did they say about you coming back?" Kate asked.
"I have to keep the name Harrison but I've basically retired, I also have to check in with the FBI agent every month. At this point I'll take what I can get."
"Have you talked to dad?" Kate handed her a coffee.
"Yeah, we have been almost every night, he's working or else I would be there. Why aren't you working?"
"Uhhh" Kate started looking at Rick. "I called in sick"
"You're not drinking coffee" Johanna said looking at Kate who shrugged.
"Cutting back" She smirked taking a sip of tea.
"Are you?" Johanna asked not taking her eyes off Kate.
"Yeah are you?" Rick asked cleaning Carson's hands and face.
"Shut up" She said throwing him the towel.
"Mommy threw a towel at me" He said Carson only giggled.
"I don't know if I am yet, I have an appointment tomorrow to know for sure." Kate said with a soft smile.
"Can you take him I need to go get ready" Rick asked Kate nodded taking Carson from Rick resting him on her hip.
"So does dad know you're here?"
"No"
"Should I invite him over for dinner?" Kate asked, Johanna smiled.
"I would love that" Kate pulled her phone from the charger texting her dad.
"How have you been since everything?" Johanna asked, Kate sighed looking at Carson.
"Pretty good, just wake up every morning glad he's still here." Kate said kissing the top of Carson's head.
"He's a beautiful little boy" Johanna smiled.
"Mommy and daddy think so too" Kate cooed making Johanna laugh.
"I'm sure he keeps you buisy."
"Oh yeah, he's all about the walking life" Kate said walking around he counter to put him down.
"How old is he now?"
"Eleven months" Kate said as he looked up at Johanna with his big blue eyes.
"Those eyes, are they Rick's?" Johanna asked.
"Mhm, he looks just like Rick." Kate smiled.
"I was hoping that you could tell me some things." Johanna said Kate nodded.
"Let's go to the couch." She said taking Carson's hand leading him to the couch where he plopped down on the floor with his toy cars and blocks.
"Most of these are more personal, I know quite a bit about you and Rick but only what I've heard or read about." Kate laughed and nodded. "So how did you two actually meet?"
"There was a copy cat killer that was killing people like Castle did in his books and I was the lead detective on the case and Castle consulted on it. The first thing he ever said to me was 'where would you like it' and somehow I still married him" She laughed. "To be honest I couldn't stand him when we first met, I just thought he was a stuck up writer who had been married twice and had a blond bimbo on each arm."
"He's not?" Johanna asked with a laugh.
"No, not anymore at least, but at first he was." Kate smiled as Rick walked out of the bedroom.
"I heard blond bimbo's and I wanted in" He smirked.
"Funny" Kate said rolling her eyes.
"I'm heading out, I'll be back in an hour or two" Rick said kissing Kate's cheek.
"Alright my dad might be coming for dinner" Rick nodded grabbing his keys.
"Love you" He called.
"Love you too" Kate said as the door closed. "Sorry back to your questions."
"Um, what about the first 'I love you' what was that?" Johanna asked, Kate swallowed looking down at Carson.
"Castle said it first and it was before I was ready. You said you heard about my shooting?" Johanna nodded.
"That was terrible I thought I was going to be sick."
"Well Rick saved my life that day and when he saw I had been shot he begged me to stay with him and he said just said it. When I came through surgery I lied and said that I didn't remember anything. It took me a long time to say it to him."
"How long?"
"Well we got together after a year and even then it took my a few months to say I love you and when I did I was standing on a bomb so..." Johanna looked at her. "It's good Castle saved my life" Kate smiled as she felt two small hands on her leg, she smiled lifting Carson onto her lap, he laid against her chest holding tightly to her shirt.
"He had a rough night last night, he isn't a fan of thunderstorms and last night was really bad." Johanna frowned.
"You didn't like them either, I remember when you were two or so and there was a bad storm, part of the hurricanes that hit that year and you came running into the bedroom in tears and wouldn't go back to your bed until the storm was over." Johanna said reaching out to lay her hand on Carson's back, he looked at her and she smiled softly.
"Want to sit on grandma's lap?" Kate whispered he moved his way from Kate's arms and over to Johanna who happily took him.
"Is he a mamma's boy?" Johanna asked looking at Kate who shrugged.
"Not really, he goes to me for snuggles but he loves when Rick plays with him. Even when he was born when he would cry I was the only one that could get him to calm down, the first month Rick always got annoyed because he was the baby whisperer but after a while he got over it. He likes being the fun dad anyway." Kate smiled.
"Have you heard anything from your dad?" Johanna asked.
"Yeah he said he could, he would be over about 6." Kate said looking at her phone.
"This might be random but can I see wedding pictures?" Johanna asked.
"Sure, they aren't that good because we didn't have a photographer since it was such short notice but we have pictures that Alexis and Martha took as well as Castle and I." Kate said walking to the shelf where she kept the box of photos. She came back over sitting down next to her mom. "The first few are random one's that I liked but the others are all wedding photo's." Johanna smiled looking threw them. She stopped on one of Kate and Jim.
"You look beautiful" She said looking at Kate who smiled.
"I had three wedding dresses I went through by the time we actually got married."
"What do you mean?" Johanna asked looking up from the pictures.
"I had mt first dress that I was keeping at my apartment but it got ruined when pipes burst in the apartment above me. Then on the day of our first wedding dad brought me your dress and I wore that, but of course I had to go to the accident crime scene and it got dirty. So I finally gave a dress and wore pants." Kate laughed making Carson look at her.
"Doesn't mommy look pretty?" Johanna whispered into his ear.
"Momma" He said pointing to the picture, Kate smiled.
"Was this your first dance?"
"Yeah, we didn't have any music or a DJ and so we were standing there and Castle asked me to dance. He pulled out his phone made our song play." Kate smiled at the memory.
"I'm happy for you, it sounds like you have a wonderful life." Johanna said looking down at Carson.
"It would have been better if you had been there." Kate replied.
"I wish I could have, nothing would have made me happier." Kate smiled softly.
"The hardest part was marrying Rick, when I was trying on my dress I half expected to see you standing behind me. I wished that you could have been there and been a part of everything."
"I'm sorry sweetie, and I'm not going anywhere I promise." Johanna said squeezing Kate's hand, Kate smiled nodding slowly. Carson looked at the two of them not even realizing how happy his mother was at this very moment.
