Kate sighed as Rick rubbed small circle on her back, she was sitting in the hospital waiting room.
"She'll be fine" Rick said softly, they were the only ones aside from another couple.
"Castle what if something happens?" Kate asked looking at him.
"Nothing will happen babe" He said kissing her forehead.
Their daughter was having surgery after being in a car accident with Alexis. She only had a few broken ribs but their daughter Johanna had a broken arm and had been hit with a lot of glass of course that was only what she came in with who knows what the doctor's would find, all Kate knew was that Jo had lost a lot of blood.
"I need to call my dad again see if he'll pick up." Kate said pulling out her phone before walking towards the doors to go outside. Unlocking her phone she smiled at her screen saver, it was Jo after her dance class a few days before. Dialing her dad's number her hands shook, the phone rang and he picked up on the third ring.
"Hey Katie I got your message and was just about to call is everything okay?" He asked.
"Where are you?" She asked sitting down on the bench.
"At the office, I just finished up with a client." Jim said Kate let out a sigh.
"Could you come to the hospital?"
"What happened?" He asked, she could hear the worry in his voice.
"Alexis and Jo were in a car accident, Alexis is fine but Jo's in surgery right now." Kate said holding back the tears.
"Yeah I'll be right there, do you need me to do anything?
"No the kids are with Lanie and Espo and Martha is with Alexis." Kate said rubbing her eyes.
"Alright, give me fifteen minutes and I'll be there." Jim said Kate thanked him and hung up before breaking down. She had held back most of the time they were here but it was all to much. Heading back in her dad showed up a little while later and the doctor came out.
"I take it your Johanna's parent's?" The doctor said they both nodded. "She's a lucky girl, the glass shards didn't cause to much damage but she did get some stitches, about fifty. Her arm's crushed but we were able to put in a few pins and got it in a cast."
"But she's okay?" Kate asked taking Rick's hand.
"She's having some trouble breathing but we think that's asthma related so we have her on oxygen for now as well as her inhalator. But she's doing fine and I think she'll make a full recovery."
"When can we see her?" Rick asked.
"You can right now, she's not awake yet but you can come in and sit with her." The doctor said kindly.
"You two go I'll go tell Martha and Alexis she's alright." Jim said Kate gave him a hug as the doctor took them back to her room.
Kate froze in the doorway seeing Jo laying there in the bed, her little six year old body looking so small and fragile. Kate and Rick walked in and sat down, Kate reached out and took Jo's hand while Rick only watched her sleep. Rick was protective of all their kids; Cole who was eight, Johanna who is six, and Andrew who was the baby and was three, but Rick adored Johanna even as a baby he would change every diaper and sooth every tear. They both loved Johanna, she was their little princess who was like Kate in every way. Johanna let out a soft cry and Kate squeezed her hand gently, opening her eyes she looked at Kate and Rick who both smiled at her.
"Hey there princess" Rick said brushing back her hair.
"It hurts daddy." She said crying.
"I know baby, they'll get you some medicine okay." Rick said softly.
"Try to get some sleep it will make it better" Kate said making Johanna look at her.
"Don't leave mommy" She said Kate's heart broke, She and Rick had a fight the night before and she had walked out of the apartment to think but had come back a few hours later.
"Mommy's not going anywhere." Kate said looking at Johanna then at Rick. Johanna closed her eyes letting herself drift back off to sleep.
"I'm sorry" Kate said still looking at Rick.
"I am too, I love you more than anything Kate." Rick said taking Kate's free hand.
"I love you too." Kate smiled moving her chair closer she leaned against him as they both watched Johanna sleep.
