"So both wanted to sit next to me at lunch and now we have a rotating schedule so everyone gets a turn to bask in my greatness." Kitty smiled, sitting at the counter as Margot and I finished up the dishes.
"How did you become the popular one out of all of us?" Margo laughed. I think Gogo always assumed she would be the most coveted Covey sister. She was the smart one with a loving boyfriend all through high school. She was involved in clubs and in all the school plays. She was well liked even though she could come off as intimidating sometimes. I don't think Margot liked not being the most liked. I think it's an oldest sibling thing.
But Kitty was always destined to be the star. Kitty was carefree and kind. She had a sparkly quality that drew people in. She never took anything too seriously or got too in her head. She just lived. I always admired that about her. "I think it's my stunning personality and breathtaking good looks." She rolled her eyes. Kitty was quickly turning into an adult. She had grown at least another inch since I left for school, making her tower of me and Gogo. Her body had filled out and her face no longer looked like a kid. She was becoming her own woman. I think she could be a model if she wanted to she was so beautiful. But in my eyes, I think she'll always be a 7 year old coloring dragons for her friends. In the same ways Margo took care of me, I took care of Kitty.
Peter came out of Dad's man cave with a small smile on his face. Dad had insisted he show Peter and Ravi his vinyl record collection. His collection was his pride and joy, other than us I hoped. He was so excited to show off things he was into. I think he liked having boys around. He was stuck with girls for most of his life after all. The male energy put him on a high. I know music wasn't Peter's greatest love, but he took one for the team. "Are you sure I can't help? With all that? You know I'm an excellent dryer."
"I think we've got it." I smiled up at his adorable face. His green eyes sparkling back at me made my heart swell. "Thank you, love." He smiled at me and I felt my body go to jelly. He was so unbelievably handsome. Sometimes I don't know how I got him to fall in love with me. "How's it going back there?"
"Good. I feel very uncool when it comes to my music taste." He stood at the counter next to Kitty.
"Dad doesn't have any Taylor Swift back there?" I bit my lip and laughed. I loved his music taste but I know his friends always made fun of him for it.
"Taylor Swift is the greatest song writer of our generation. Don't you dare cross her name." Kitty chimed in.
"I knew I liked her." He gave Kitty a high five and I wanted to make out with him right there. Being nice to Kitty was the way to my heart. "Your dad and Ravi were having a debate about the Beatles and Rolling Stones."
"Again?" Margot slumped down. "This is gonna be all he talks about tonight." She sighed. Margot and Ravi both never knew when to give something a rest. It was full on always. They both had to win the argument and have the other change to the same opinion or they could not go to sleep. I thought it was annoying, but Margo thought it was endearing. She liked that they argued. It was only helping both of them since they were studying law.
"I think that's my cue to go break it up." Peter looked over to me and winked. "You have to make those lemon bars for me again. I can't stop thinking about them."
I tried to hide my blush. "I'll see what I can do." I smiled as he walked back to where the boys were hanging out.
Kitty turned to me with a cheeky smile on her face. "He loooooves you."
I tried to roll my eyes at her but couldn't stop myself from smiling. "Kitty."
"The way he looks at you when you're not even looking at him. I saw it all the time at dinner. He's always checking on you and making sure you're okay before he can calm down. He's obsessed with you but in a good, not creepy, way." She smiled. "I like him."
