Peter
DID SHE REALLY JUST SAY THAT ?!?
"Did you really just say yes?" I asked as soon as John closed the door.
"What?" Her eyes went wider than I had ever seen them, like she blacked out for the last minute.
"John just asked you out and you said yes." I shook my head and leaned forward in my desk chair. Were all these feelings just in my head? Why would she say yes if she didn't mean it? Lara Jean wasn't someone who lies. Shit. My heart felt like it was drowning, trapped in a well with no hope of escaping.
"Shit." She mumbled, got out of bed and walked up to me. She grabbed my shoulders and stared me straight in the eyes. "I didn't mean to."
"What does that even mean, Covey?" I felt like the other shoe was about to drop. This all seemed to be going too well. How could I forget that her liking John was the whole reason for all of this thing? My mind started to race. "Do you actually like John? I know we went on that date for him in the first place. If you do, I will back off. This could be a one-time thing. We can still be friends and never talk about it again. I promise I won't make it awkward because I like you too much to not be friends, but I just need to know so I won't get..." I trailed off not even wanting to think about the next words.
"Peter," She ran her hands through my curls. I met her eyes, nurturing yet fragile. "I like you."
"I know." I sighed. "But you also like him."
"I like him as a friend. Honestly, I don't know him that much to know if I like him." She took a moment and a new light came to her eyes. "And I don't really care to try to get to know him." She bit her lip and ran her hand across my cheek. "I am really into this dude I've been seeing."
"Really?" I smiled and every negative thought suddenly disappeared from my brain. It was like everything else faded away. It was me and her.
"Yeah. He's an athlete and is really, really cute. He knows the best place to get deserts and really likes those car movies." The twinkle was back in her eye. "You should meet him sometime. I think you'd really like him."
"Oh really." I got up smiling sliding my arm around her waist. She nodded at me and leaned into me. I lifted her up slightly and brought her to my lips. I stepped us back, her knees connecting with the foot of my bed. She followed me down, not breaking her lips from mine. This kiss felt urgent and special. I felt more confident in this kiss than any before. She wasn't doing it to pass time until John. She was with me because she "really, really" liked me. I grabbed the back of her head and took control. She was so much smaller than me, but fit right in all the curves of my body. Her leg swung between mine, making goosebumps run up and down my body.
"You're so beautiful." I said as she started to kiss down my neck.
"Thanks angel." She looked at me with a smirk. Using my own words against me, how dare she be so cute while doing it.
"Oh, no you don't!" I threw her back on the bed and tickled up her body. She small squeezes and squeals made my heart swell from inside. Her blushed cheeks were pink and perfect. I kissed every part of them before I needed to be back to her lips. The fact we could go from emotional to sexy to fun made me want her more.
We were fully in the make up when the door clicked. "Hey Lara Jean! How do you feel about Thai"?
It was John.
I knew his voice, but refused to look back. I could stand to see his face while in this position. I was lying on top, making out with the girl he was supposed to be going on a date with.
