Memories Made in the Clearing

"Wasn't that super cool?!" Ky giggled.

"Meh. Not really my thing-"

"But robots came to exterminate everyone!! You've gotta like that!" her hazel eyes were smiling as her cheeks glowed.

I laughed, knowing she was happy. If Ky was happy right now, after what she's gone through, then I could be happy.

My thoughts were interrupted by a vibration in my necklace.

Hey guys, you okay? I'm out of school today again, so I was wonderin' if we could help out Ms. Vivian with her super powers. Wooo wooooo I could tell that Cody was being a dork, as usual.

"What do ya' say Viv? Wanna go?" she looked at her cat. "I could get us a ride."

Did I want to? We hadn't talked in forever it seemed like, yet we just talked yesterday. "Up to you. They're your friends."

She just laughed. "They're your friends too, and Cody seems to be taking a liking to you."

"Someone already kinda called dibs on me in that group," I was talking about her. She liked me, and I saw how jealous she got when Cody was flirting.

Her face flushed.

"Now, this doesn't mean that I like her like that. I am straight, as far as I know, but if the time was right I might give her a chance. But I will tell you this, I do like someone in the group."

We ended up in the forest with Cody and LeAnne, ready to continue practicing the magic.

"Alrighty Miss Vivian, the fairest of them all, what would you wish to practice today?" Cody took my hand and I saw Ky look away.

"Well... learning to chance into inanimate things, if possible," I looked to the ground, pulling my hand away from Cody's grasp.

"Oooooh interesting. So something like a rock, or something more like a tree?" LeAnne was leaning against a tall evergreen tree.

"Tree, that would be cool," Ky walked up to LeAnne and leaned against the same tree, while Cody and I were left in the middle of the little clearing. He looked down and held my hand.

"I'll help push some magic into you, then you just imagine what you wanna be," he was confident, so I trusted him. I felt the energy flow into my veins, giving me power.

Let's try to be a sapling, just a young tree. Doesn't matter what species.

I felt Cody let go of my hand as I felt my bones harden, just as though they did when I backed into the tree. I couldn't look around, and I could tell I was a tree.

"How am I doing?" I opened my eyes, looking at the familiar surrounding for the first time as a tree. I was larger than I thought, I wanted to be a sapling, yet I was a mostly mature tree.

"You're doing great Vivian!" Ky shouted at me, laughing. Her eyes glimmered. "Squee!! This is amazing!"

I felt my branches morph back into my hair and limbs, and felt my human body come back to me. It was nice to be human again.

Cody wrapped his arms around my waist, from the back, and kissed my cheek. "You did it Vivian, that's great. You'll get far in this, I know you will." His arms stayed around my waist. This is wrong, with Ky here. I don't know what I feel right now, but I just know that it feels wrong... I blushed. Keep it together Vivian, you're straight and so is he. He is the only guy that has ever been nice to me...

LeAnne cleared her throat. "C'mon Ky, let's give the love-birds some room."

Ky's face was red, with embarrassment or anger, I couldn't tell. Ky then let LeAnne lead her into the trees, where they couldn't see us.

"Cody, what are you doing?" He was holding onto me, his chin on my shoulder as his arms stayed around my waist. He swayed us back and forth.

"It's okay Viv, I know you don't feel the same way-" his voice cracked.

"Cody, I-"

"No, I'm sorry it's just that," He let go of me and backed away. I turned to face the red-faced brunette. "I like you, okay? And so does Ky- I was scared that- I don't even know, I..."

He took in a deep breath.

"I was scared that you liked her and I wouldn't get a chance to tell you that I- I like you Vivian, I really do and it's hard for me because I know that you are always with her, and I just... I don't know I-"

"I've already made my choice, Cody, I-"

"No, no, it's okay. Don't apologize, you don't need to say anything."

"Then I won't."

I put my hand on his shoulder and the other one grabbed the collar of his shirt. In one swift movement, I pulled his lips to mine. He gasped but he quickly found spots for his hands behind my neck. His hands were warm on my neck, and he ran his fingers through my dyed hair.

He pulled away, gasping for air. "V-Vivian, I-"

I put my finger on his lips. "It's a secret, alright? You can't tell Ky, she'd be..." Oh God, what had I done? Ky would be heartbroken, devastated, crushed... "She'd be... upset."

"Yeah, right I won't tell anyone. As long as you promise me one thing."

"And what would that be?"

He pulled me close, facing me, and his hands were around my lower back. "You promise that you'll be mine." He kissed me again, but this time, it was just a quick peck.

Smiling in the arms of this insane and amazing guy, I said "I promise."
