They all stared at him wide-eyed as he sat on the seat.

Of course Maxine spoke up first. "You wear glasses, Jax?"

"Have I not worn these before?" His finger tapped the eyepiece. "I'm pretty sure I have."

"Prescription?"

"Reading."

"Oh! I've never pegged you as the type," Maxine replied. Her eyes glittered with interest under her own rounded spectacles. Jax' lenses were oblong-shaped.

"How long have you had these?" Kayla asked. She kept glancing at him curiously. She wasn't the only one. The others had a hunch his eyesight was flawed, noticing how he had often squinted at some signages or inscriptions a couple of times. They never really knew he owned glasses though.

Except for Ollie, of course. "He's had those since the first day I moved in," he burped. "Probably even much longer." The small boy took a bite out of his patty cake once more.

"And you never questioned a farm boy wearing these?" She was referring to Jax' fake identity at the time the roommates first met. Jocelyn had tried to grab Jax' glasses away only to be scolded by everyone on the table. Minus Jack, of course.

"I've seen enough things in life to care about someone wearing glasses, Jocy. Also that's a rather distasteful thing to say especially to people raised on farms."

Jack let out a murmur of approval.

Jocelyn clicked her tongue. One shouldn't be fooled by the small boy. Ollie was incredibly witty. She gave Jack an impassive look. "If that ever sounded offensive, I apologize."

"None taken." Her words at least sounded sincere, in their Jocelyn kind of way.

"You never wore them out in public?" Kayla turned her attention back to Jax.

"I didn't really spend time in the library, plus I read in my room."

"Shame."

"Shame?" Jocelyn smirked at the fairy.

Kayla cleared her throat; eyeing Jocelyn warily. "He's been our friend for so long. By now we should've known.

Ollie snorted beside her. "Right, Gilly doesn't even know."

"Nonsense, I'm pretty sure—wait."

A scowl was on the brunette's face. She had been silently poking at her mashed potatoes for a while.

"Oh—wait, how come Ollie's the only one who knew?"

The small boy shrugged. "No one's asked."

"I didn't see the need to tell you guys," Jax smiled apologetically. "Besides, it's important right now." Jax was scouring the archives for older citations, assigned to them by Professor Sebastian. He was the only one who knew how to find them, but some of the fine print had washed away or had gotten rusty, making Jax unable to read them properly. He had gotten back to his room to grab his glasses before stopping for lunch.

"Where are your eyes going Kayla?" Jocelyn sneered.

"W-what do you mean?"

"Those eyes aren't staring at food," Ollie snickered. He set his fork down and raised his eyebrows in a teasing manner. "He looks good doesn't he?"

Somewhere at the table, Anna choked on her drink. Most of the girls, minus Gilly and Jocelyn reacted in some way.

"I know what you're thinking!" Kayla hissed at him. "Stop it."
