"I told you, it fell from the sky!"

"The sky," Jax intoned wearily. "It fell from the sky."

"Yes." Ollie said proudly, swinging his hand around without any pretense. He conked Maxine on the head, who let out a shriek.

"Watch it Ollie," Jax ducked out of the way and grabbed Ollie's flute before he himself would suffer from a concussion. Well, it was almost a flute. The reddish-brown wooden flute had been rudely snapped in half. Ollie would've dismissed it as a commonplace stick if it weren't for being 2 centimeters longer than the usual flute, almost the same size as Ollie's forearm. And he wouldn't miss it exactly if it weren't for the carved ivory flecks decorating the broken piece.

"You should've just thrown it away," Kayla eyed it warily. "Who knows where it's been?"

"Animals, insects, snakes, grubby human hands," Jocelyn listed off. "Could've been stuck on the ground for who knows what. Maybe there are things inside of interest." Her eyes gleamed.

"Ewww!"

"Whatever, it looks cool enough. It could be a weapon for all I care," Ollie swung the flute again, smacking Gilly's side. She shot him a glare.

"Just throw it away, Ollie."

"No chance, look! It's no ordinary thing," he raised it up and pointed at the mouthpiece. Below the hole was a carving of sorts. A flag-shaped emblem that no one recognized.

"See? It's even longer than average."

"Ollie, it fell from the sky."

"So? Many things fall from the sky, like rain and hail. Pinecones even, and droppings too. Oh! And birds!" Kayla stared at him like he gained two heads while Jax sighed.

Gilly shook her head. "Fine, you can keep it. But we'll ask our Professors if they... erm, know about falling flutes from the sky."

She just was about to turn to the direction of school when a flash of lightning struck the ground so abruptly that there had been a 5 second delay for everyone to react.

"Holy gingerbread!" Maxine exclaimed as Kayla shrieked. The two girls held onto each other and stared around in shock.

"What the–?" Jocelyn looked bewildered.

If Jocelyn herself was confused, then they had unknowingly stepped into the unexpected.

"I-i-it's just lightning," Ollie's voice wobbled.

"In the middle of the day?" Gilly breathed and sniffed the air. Her hair had been singed.

"More things from the sky!" Jocelyn said. "Next thing you know humans are going to fall over us."
