She got her answer much sooner than expected later at the after party at the Tiger's house.
People were in an all-out party mood as though the Tigers had already won the championship. The house was even more crowded than usual, with people spilling out on to the front lawn and backyard.
"Everyone's counting on us," Jisoo had explained when Lisa looked bewildered by the turnout so early in the season. "They wanna show us support."
"No pressure or anything, then," Lisa joked. Jisoo batted her shoulder.
"You're the youngest captain the team ever had, and the best one yet. I don't blame them for thinking that this year is our year," she shrugged.
"Well, I ain't bringing much changes, it's still the same team as last year," Lisa said modestly, "but as long as we work together, we can make it. Also, screw that Jeong prick."
"That's what I'm talking about!" Jisoo hooted.
Kim Jisoo was Lisa's best friend and right-hand girl on and off the pitch, and she was the one to keep Lisa in check whenever she butted heads with match officials, or more recently, the new assistant coach who stepped in because the head coach had contracted some nasty flu.
As Jisoo herself put it, the promoted assistant coach was a pompous pretentious prick. He nearly had Lisa blowing her top during the match because of his needless opinions and assertions that confused the squad but Jisoo was there to smooth things over and save the day.
"We're gonna go all the way together, Soo, right to the top," Lisa said determinedly.
"As long as it's not on top of me," Jisoo smirked, wiggling her eyebrows and making Lisa gag and shove her away, almost bowling over a couple of terrified freshmen. Lisa hauled Jisoo back up, guffawing at her friend's glare.
"A toast?" Lisa said to make peace. Jisoo smirked, dropping her faux annoyance quickly as they clinked cups.
"To us!"
Thereafter they took up their posts against a wall and watched from the side, nodding at teammates as they passed them by, too tired from the game to actually make an effort in mingling with their peers.
The night progressed and more people joined the party as music thrummed and alcohol flowed freely.
The only thing keeping Lisa up was Jisoo's entertaining and oftentimes scathing commentary as she scored people on their outfits, their hairdo, their makeup, their smooching and ultimately bet on who was gonna hook up with who. Lisa sometimes offered her own opinions, snorting when Jisoo cracked a shot at some poor unassuming person on the other side of the room.
"Hey, 10 o'clock, what you think?" Jisoo suggested out of nowhere, gesturing with her solo cup. "A solid 7, eh?"
"I know," Lisa mumbled, sipping her drink. She had seen the girl, but was steadfastly ignoring her.
Standing some way ahead of them was Chaeyoung, chatting to someone while nursing her own red cup. Lisa kept her face nonchalant but she couldn't stop her heart beating just a little faster at the sight of the blonde.
Chaeyoung was still wearing the same outfit: baggy jeans and a plain shirt but with her figure, she pulled off the simple get-up like a runway model. Lisa let her gaze roam appreciatively, noting the multiple piercing to her ears, the curve of her hips and the way she fidgeted with her cup, and her sparkling eyes, and her lip gloss...
Lisa sighed, loud enough for Jisoo to take notice.
"That's the chick you talked to at the game, right?"
