Pin sighed, staring at the project guide being displayed on the computer in front of her. She leaned her chin on her hand, glancing around the room.

Her eyes landed on a particular noirette, typing on her keyboard with a focused but still upbeat expression. How do you do it? Pin blinked. She felt her face warm up, but payed no mind to it.

She'd noticed how Leafy seemed to enjoy school, and put genuine effort into all her work, but she'd also noticed how drained she'd seemed recently. Nobody should be able to give 100% all of the time, and yet she tried, and often managed to.

Leafy was a straight A student, her lowest score probably only being an 85. Pin tried to keep good grades too, but not to the point where all she seemed to do was study.

Pin had observed the same thing in the other classes they have together, full effort, perfect marks, it was almost concerning.

The day before when they'd been eating lunch together felt like a dream to Pin, but Leafy was studying then too. Pin had tried to get her to loosen up, but she seemed oblivious.

So Pin was now making it her personal quest to help Leafy take a break, and while she didn't really know how, she was going to do it.

She kinda had to since she'd already bet on it with Coiny.

The bell rang, and Leafy, having already packed all her stuff ready to leave, stood and slung her bag over over shoulder. Pin haphazardly shoved her computer into her bag and sped over to the shorter's desk.

"Hey, Leafy! I uh, we have our next class together, wanna walk with me?" Pin stammered, pointing over her shoulder at the door.

"Oh, sure Pin, lemme just.." Leafy trailed off, moving to look behind Pin, prompting the taller to do the same.

The two watched in displeasure as Coiny ran past Firey, pushing him out of the way intentionally before speeding out into the hall. Firey yelled after Coiny, unbeknownst to him that the brunette had planted a sticky note saying "kick me!!" on his back.

Pin and Leafy stood, disappointed but not surprised in the slightest. "...usually I would follow them to tell Firey that there was a sticky note on his back, but I don't feel like it right now." Leafy sighed.

"Wow, so cold Leafster." Pin chuckled. She turned back to the noirette, and with a fond smile held out her hand, "Shall we?"

Leafy put her hand in Pin's, "We shall."

Pin would be lying if she said she didn't hope Leafy would hold her hand the whole way there, but to her dismay, she didn't. Leafy dropped her hand back to her side before stepping towards the door to leave.

Pin quickly went to catch up with her, and the two began on the path to their last class of the day. All the while talking about whatever the hell was being taught in the previous class, Pin really wasn't paying attention back there, Leafy made it sound easy though.

Pin sat down and lied her head on her desk, only to then lift her head as someone poked her arm, Leafy.

"Hey, mind if I sit here?" she pointed to the desk next to Pins, "the people I usually sit by are kinda mean so..."

Pin glanced to where Leafy usually sat, and immediately nodded yes as she saw the infamous alliance, Iance, gossiping nearby.

Leafy grinned and sat her belongings down, digging through them to find the items she'd need for the class, prompting Pin to do the same.

After setting all her items down, Pin noticed Leafy staring into her bag, her face going slightly pale. "You doing alright, Leafy?"

"No, I uh... I forgot to return this book to the library..." Leafy spoke, holding the book up for emphasis. "it's overdue." she frowned.

Pin was taken aback by how sad she sounded. It was just a book, it's not like she'd lost it and had to buy a new one or something. Why was she so disappointed?

"Why not just return it today? there's no fees or anything for late books, is there?" Pin took the book from Leafy's hands to read the back for the summary. It was something about two girls stuck in haunted woods, running in circles endlessly just trying to get out. "You're into horror?"

"Oh, yeah. I don't understand why people are always so shocked by that." Leafy giggled, but sadness was still evident in her tone. "There's a lot more to this book than just the horror, like the two girls both come from bad families and in the daytime the forest is an escape. It's only at night that they realize a horrible monster resides within."

Pin could see her visibly perking up as she began to info dump about the novel, and Pin would be lying if she said she didn't find it cute.

"It's a metaphor for how things can appear normal, even lovely on the outside, but there's always terms and conditions. Despite all the bad stuff, they have each other. At night when things aren't horrible they often have casual and even heart felt conversations, as to show there's always light in the dark."

Leafy paused to take a breath "Back to negativity though, at the end of the day all you have is yourself, which is portrayed by- "

"Spoilers! But I wanna read this now, it sounds cool!" Pin replied as she turned in her chair to better face the noirette.

"You should! And then we can geek out about it together!" Leafy smiled, and Pin could swear there were stars in her eyes. "ah but... I still have to return it. Tomorrow too, since the day is almost over."

Pin shrugged, "then you'll return it tomorrow, no biggie."

"But I'd have to skip out on lunch with you." Leafy went to put the book back in her bag.

Pin had to admit, that thought made her sad, but it was obvious punctuality was important to Leafy. "That's alright, we have the rest of the week to eat together y'know."

"Well if it's alright with you." Pin couldn't read her tone this time, but she felt a strange hint of resignation. It was probably wishful thinking thought.

And then the professor stood and class started.

on a major creative block so there probably won't be chapter art for a while. I might go back and add to previous chapters though, I'll tell you guys if I do.
