I just threw out the love of my dreams

Coiny held a stoic expression, but he was resisting the urge to scream with every fiber of his being. He hadn't looked at Firey since they'd been dragged into the infirmary. As Firey had left the room though, he had risked glancing up, only to find the other had the same idea.

They made brief eye contact and Coiny didn't hesitate to break it, hoping the absolute clusterfuck of emotions he was feeling and thoughts he was having didn't show in his face. Firey had stopped in the doorway, and only left seconds after the two met eyes. Coiny didn't see if he'd opened his mouth to say something, before deciding not to, or if he maybe held up his middle finger, or if he'd looked away as fast as Coiny did.

What he did see in his millisecond long glance, was an expression simulating exactly what he was feeling.

Guilt, regret, embarrassment, pity, yearning, confusion. He didn't know what to think, he didn't know what Firey was thinking, and there was another source of conflict stirring in his mind.

...The end of the fight.

I mean, sure, he's in immense physical and emotional pain, but damn. He always enjoyed towering over Firey (as much as he could) to tease and poke fun and all the likes, Firey had never done the same to him, until the end of the fight. And wow was it extremely taxing on his psyche to be put in that position

He tried not to think about it when Firey was in the room, but now that he was gone Coiny was free to be outwardly flabbergasted.

Where was he hiding all that intimidation?! That grip?! What the fuck happened to that stupid lanky guy who always drew dicks on his worksheets like a middle schooler?!!

Firey doesn't work out or anything as far as Coiny is aware, and the only sport he's in is track, so where the fuck did that strength come from??? Sure Coiny was definitely shorter than him, but Firey's a fucking twig. Twigs shouldn't be able to overpower people that easily!!!! And yet, he did, and jeez was it making Coiny question the last however many years they'd known each other.

He felt his face redden. "What is wrong with me! ugh,, this is a serious situation, not a some kinda second bi awakening!!! Get it together!!" Coiny stood and immediately winced at the pain shooting up his leg. It wasn't broken or fractured or anything, just horrifically scathed and wrapped tightly in uncomfortable gauze. An inconvenience. He groaned and made his way out of the infirmary, ready to go home and go the fuck to sleep.

Before that though, he messaged Pin.

>Call me as soon as you get home. Code Dirtbag.

>...
>What did you get into this time?

Coiny didn't bother with a reply, knowing he'd better explain over the phone.

"Code Dirtbag?"

Pin hadn't even realized Leafy had been looking over her shoulder, and promptly sighed before moving in her seat to better face her.

"Yeah. Means something's up with a certain someone." Pin said smugly, before realizing Leafy had no idea who she was talking about. "Firey, something's up with Coiny and Firey."

Leafy looked alarmed for a moment, before quickly masking it. "I- oh. What's up?"

"They've both been missing since break, so either they had a pleasant chat or... y'know, fought." Pin shrugged, but didn't fail to notice the pitiful expression on Leafy's face.

Leafy leaned her chin on her hand and idly tapped her pencil eraser on the desk. "Don't tell him I told you this, but Firey has the worst crush on Coiny. It's really sad to watch, considering their relationship." She closed her eyes, getting the feeling she was forgetting something.

"Your boyfriend likes someone else?"

Oh. That's what she was forgetting.

Leafy's eyes widened. "AH. Forget I said that! I-It was a joke!! yeah, a..."

Pin giggled, "Leafy I already kno-"

"You didn't say 'my boyfriend'"

"...What?"

Leafy paused, before looking back up at Pin. "You didn't say 'You're boyfriend likes my boyfriend,' you just said 'someone else.'"

Now it was Pin's turn to bluescreen. And then, she burst out laughing.

"Heheh,, we both got roped into the same scheme, didn't we?" Pin giggled. "I already knew you and Firey weren't a thing, I saw you two signing about it."

Leafy blinked and tilted her head. "...So that means, you and Coiny aren't a thing either?"

"No, I don't know why they had to drag us into their little 'rivalry.' It's all so dumb."

Leafy felted so,, relieved? 'Why am I so glad she and Coiny aren't together? ...hm' She pondered for a moment, before coming to the conclusion that she was just glad this meant Firey had a chance with Coiny.

Pin smiled again at Leafy, lightly kicking her legs under the desk. "I'd probably know you two weren't dating even without seeing you two signing to each other about it, you can do so much better than him."

"Hey! He's still my friend. ...I do agree though, I kinda felt you'd never really date Coiny, if that makes sense."

"Yeah, I got someone else in mind. Also Firey and Coiny should resolve their issues on their own. Y'know, Coiny calls me like every day with a recap of th..."

Leafy wasn't paying attention to what Pin was saying, all she could think was 'Someone else in mind.' It played in her head over and over again, like a broken record. Who could Pin like? ...And why was Leafy so dismayed at the thought of her swooning over some mystery girl? She should be happy for Pin, why isn't she happy for her?

'Am I being a bad friend? Oh no!'

Leafy couldn't think over it more though, because the bell rang and Pin held out a hand to help Leafy up. Leafy took it, and tried to ignore the warmth of Pin's hand and the squeeze in her chest.
