Morning. Tear stains on my pillow. On my cheeks,
The emptiness of the house made every footstep, every movement seem so impactful. Each limb began to feel more active, more ready. It gave the sense of motivation to move and to begin to explore what kind of day your life will lead.
At last, Jayden decided to wake up and he made himself a coffee as well. I hadn't planned to stay with Anna and Jayden last night. I can't even remember how I ended up here.
"Do you know where Anna is?" It was the first thing I said that morning.
"I don't know... maybe she went for some food?" Jayden suggested, but his face looked just as worried.
So I went up to the guest room, which was basically my second room but just in Anna's apartment, to get dressed. The room is massive. Heck, their entire apartment is massive and luxurious. It was the type of apartment that Anna had always dreamed of.
I heard the door creak open and I ran downstairs. It was Anna, she was in her active wear, hair bundled together on her head.
"Where were you and why did you leave so early?" I sounded like my mother, too much like my mother.
"Oh my goodness, calm down I just went for a run," she was panting, in a strange pattern.
She went over the fridge and grabbed herself breakfast. She was shaking.
"Anna are you okay?", I tilted my head to the side, like people often do when they're really confused.
"I already told you, I'm fine," her voice began to sound aggressive. Anna suddenly took on a pale look, as if she'd been painted with white-wash - even her lips were barely there.
"Anna, are you sure you're ok?"
"Tara, I'm fine" she insisted. I could feel myself starting to become a nuisance. I went back up to the room and just sat on my bed because there was pretty much nothing else to do. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and checked my messages. Nothing. But then I heard a thud from downstairs.
I could've fainted. Anna was on the ground. Still and lifeless; Jayden at her side. I was in panic. I'd never actually seen anyone faint. In movies yes, but never in front of my own eyes.
"Anna, Anna!" Jayden was trying to get her to move.
"Tara, call the ambulance!" I couldn't think straight, but I picked up my phone and called the ambulance. My hand was shaking, and my voice shuttered. As long as it could save my sister.
"They'll be here as soon as they can," I explained as I hung the phone up. I started crying, because it was terrifying, because I had no idea what happened, or what would happen to Anna.
When the ambulance arrived, I watched them carry her out on a stretcher. Her eyelids still closed; her skin still pale. The paramedic was talking with Jayden; I just sat on the couch. My hands were clenched tight and both my legs were beginning to feel numb.
"Tara, get in the car we're going to the hospital," he grabbed his coat off the front door and got into her car.
