Chapter Four: Unkiss Me

HAZEL

The boutique Rachel worked in was a twenty minute walk from the Starbucks so I didn't have far to walk. As I walked my mind wondered to why the sudden change in behaviour, Rachel and Jake were noisy and loud which was why they decided to live together. I preferred quiet so chose to live on my own. Rachel wouldn't ignore Jake without a real reason. I just hoped that she would open up to me. Maybe it was a guy, but normally she was open and vocal about getting a guy in bed so if there was a new guy in her life then why hadn't she told us. I never considered myself to be a nosey person but I was invested in my friend's lives as they were in mine. The three of us were best friends after all and nothing came between us easily, not even a new relationship.

I probably should have gone home and showered and changed out of my running gear but I wasn't that clever. I was one of those people who came up with something when it was too late; today was one of those days. Though my crop top and shorts were turning a few eyes which boosted my self confidence, even if a few lingered on my ass. I wasn't the only person dressed to exercise, LA had a lot of fitness buffs so my appearance was a dime a dozen.

I just happened to get more looks and comments because I was a girl. If only I could get a date or a boyfriend for that matter, I had the body but I didn't have much look interacting with the opposite sex. Yes conversation came easy with Adam but he's not just nay guy, he's a celebrity. Someone named the sexiest man alive wouldn't even consider me when he could get any girl he wanted.

I was outside the boutique before I knew it; I pulled my hair out of the messy ponytail and left it loose. It made me look kind of presentable; Rachel worked in a high end boutique that had a dress code which excluded sports gear. I was about to push open the door when I saw Rachel strut around the counter and embrace a make customer. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and pulled him in for a kiss, I quickly realised that this wasn't a customer but a 'guy' friend. I stepped back and pulled my phone out of my bra, I found Jake's number and hit dial, and he picked up on the second ring.

'What can I do for you Haze?'

'You were right about Rachel, I was about to walk into the boutique when she began kissing a male customer. I think she has a new boyfriend, unless she has a job on the side.'

On the other end of the line I heard Jake mute the TV before he replied; he had been watching Friends re-runs which I approved of because it was a classic show.

'But why the cold shoulder? Are we not good enough for this guy? I'll get to the bottom of this later when she comes home.'

'Don't say anything otherwise she'll accuse me of spying on her. Let her come clean herself Jake. Do you want to know what also annoys me about this situation?'

'What else annoys you Haze?'

Jake sighed and I could imagine him leaning back on the sofa and putting his feet on the coffee table. It annoyed Rachel so he only did it when she wasn't in. I straightened up and took another step away from the boutique.

'My leather jacket she needed for her project, well she's wearing it right now.'

Jake laughed.

'I told you that you'd probably never get it back.'

I rolled my eyes, he loved when he was right and I was wrong.

'Well I updated you so now I'm going to go home and clean myself up because I'm sweaty and ticked off. I loved that jacket.'

'We'll go out just the two of us and we'll get you a brand new jacket, one that's even nicer than your old one. Goodbye Haze.'

He hung up and I slipped the phone back into my bra with a smile on my face. Somehow whenever I got off the phone with Jake I always had a smile on my face for the rest of the day. He was contagious.
