Chapter Nineteen: Not Falling Apart

~1 Week Later~

HAZEL

I had a small bump and every morning I woke up, I smiled and rubbed my belly, I couldn't wait to be a mum and the date couldn't come quick enough. I'd taken to documenting each week of the pregnancy with a photo of my expanding belly, luckily today Jake was on hand with the camera to snap away. I had always loved to document moments in my life and in my eyes pregnancy was a pretty big milestone other than marriage.

After Jake left around midday I got a call off Rachel asking if I could meet her for lunch as she had something important to tell me. I agreed as her voice sounded a little shaky and hoarse as if she'd been crying. No one made my best friend cry; I would find the person and kill them. That's what friendship is all about, minus the murder part.

Rachel chose a little cafe close to her apartment which served the best chicken salad wrap I'd ever tasted, I was a sucker for a good chicken dish and this place served only the best. I was led to a table by a flamboyant waiter called George who asked if he could touch my belly because he loved children, I laughed and let him telling him I was having twins. He then went on to gush about how beautiful they would be since they had a stunning mother. Every girl loves getting comments and I was no exception despite being more tomboyish.

"Damn girl you get bigger each time I see you, I want my godchildren to be healthy."

Rachel engulfed me in what use to be a bone crushing hug but now felt like she wasn't even squeezing me due to my wolf strength. I hugged her back and we did the cliché air kiss, she always knew how to bring the girl out in me.

"Let's order, I want me some chicken as do the babies."

Rachel chuckled and took her seat opposite me, from outside appearances she looked okay but the foundation under her eyes was a little heavier than the rest of her makeup. She'd been crying either before she got here or while she was waiting for me and she'd tried to cover it up, but her eyes were slightly red and puffy. I took her hand in mine across the table and squeezed reassuringly, she shot me a weak smile.

"I need to tell you something Hazel. I know you never saw eye to eye with him but I thought he was the one."

Instantly I knew who she was talking about, the one and only Derek. Yes she was right we didn't see eye for eye, he'd tried to run Adam and I off the road and put a dog shock collar around my neck to humiliate me.

"What did he do Rachel?"

George appeared with our drinks and took our food orders before scurrying away knowing we needed privacy. Rachel let out a little sniffle; she really did like Derek and thought he was a good guy. What could he have done that was worse than hitting her?

"I found messages on his phone from another woman, he's been cheating on me since the week we made 'us' official. Hazel she's pregnant with his child and so I left him. I threw a vase at his head and stormed out of his apartment."

I was speechless; Derek had cheated on Rachel and got another woman pregnant. That was low even for him. Rachel didn't have a good track record with relationships and this had to have knocked her confidence in men in general.

"I'm going home for a few days to get away from this place and its memories. I will be back once my head is clear and I no longer want to rip his throat out along with his whore."

Rachel had never been good at getting angry; it wasn't in her nature so when she got mad it was funny to watch because no one could ever take her threats seriously. I covered my mouth to stop from laughing which made my friend glare at me across the table before slapping my hand.
