Chapter Twenty Seven: My Heart Is Open

RACHEL

I could hear a crunching sound quite close to my ear, I tried to squirm away from it but it only got louder as my body woke up. The last thing I remembered was putting the fear of god into Behati after she threatened Hazel before I felt dizzy and James caught me. Oh my god James Valentine actually picked me up and carried me upstairs, I'd got to spend the day with him learning witch stuff and he was supportive. I could have just laid there fantasying about James but the loud crunching kind of ruined the mood.

"Are you awake yet Rachel?"

Of course it was Hazel; no one else would act this way. I just wanted to fall back asleep and not wake up, but then I remembered that Behati and the hunters were planning something major and not all of us would make it out unscathed.

"Yes I'm awake Haze. Now stop crunching so loud because my head kind of kills still."

It was the truth, just trying to sit up in the bed sent a pang of searing pain across my forehead. Hazel discarded the small bowl of popcorn on the bedside table and shoved a glass of water and two pills into my hands.

"James told me to tell you to take these when you wake up, they will make the headache go away. They are something the witches cooked up."

I nodded and winced before placing the pills in my mouth and taking a large swig of water. I nearly gagged as the pills dissolved instantly leaving a fowl aftertaste in my mouth. Hazel saw my discomfort and handed me the bowl of popcorn and I shovelled some in unladylike savouring the sweetness that cancelled the bitterness of the pills. I knew witches were all about herbal and shit, but damn they needed to make their pills taste nicer.

"Feeling better?"

I was about to chastise Hazel's question, of course I wasn't okay because my head was in pain but then the pills worked their magic quite literally and the pain vanished. I shook my head to see if it was a placebo effect, but not just my head felt better but my whole body. I needed to pick up a prescription of those pills pronto.

"Hello earth to the badass witch who but Behati in her place, it's me Hazel calling is anyone home?"

Hazel started clicking her fingers in front of my face when I didn't answer her immediately; this seemed to be a new thing that came with her wolfy transformation. Hazel now didn't like it when people didn't pay her attention when she was speaking to them, she would snap her fingers or make a snarky remark until people took notice. I reached forwards and grabbed her wrists to stop her from snapping anymore, she tilted her head and smiled weakly at me.

"I want to say thank you for before Rachel. If you hadn't come when you did then I would have done something to Behati I would have regretted later, she just sent me into a rage when she spoke about killing my babies. I really just want all this drama to be over and things to go back to the way they use to be."

Sadness laced her voice and I knew my friend well enough to know that this was bothering her, so I did what all best friends do and pulled her into a hug and squeezed her half to death which had no effect no because she had super strength or something. I soothed back her hair in a calming manner, it looked like all the events were finally getting to her and if anything she needed to be the strongest out of us all.

"You're my best friend Haze and I'd do whatever it takes to make sure you and your babies are safe. You don't have to face this scary thing alone, you have an alpha werewolf who would kill for you and a whole pack who would fight tooth and claw if it meant keeping you safe. Plus now I'm a bad ass witch and can do magic spells which will make the hunters shake in their boots. I wouldn't change things Hazel."
