30th September 2019

I have now located a suitable test subject for Phase III. The desired candidate had to be within reasonable distance for the initial dose to be administered and then monitored from afar, whilst also being in a position to later be admitted to the Alastair Institute Psychiatric Hospital during the later stage of the trial.

Once my search had been narrowed down, I received communication from the Shadows on who would be most suitable. The subject in question is a young man aged seventeen, who was turned into one of the Infected aged thirteen. He has no living relatives, only an adoptive father who I believe is also an Infected, and currently lives alone in Shadow Creek, where he attends the local high school. His human parents were killed during the destruction of the town of Resurrection in 2014, an incident I now suspect may have been his doing since there was only one survivor and it took place shortly after his thirteenth birthday.

From my initial investigation, I have learned little about the subject's character, though he does appear to be making every attempt to live as a mortal. If my source is correct, he has not willingly consumed human blood since the destruction of Resurrection. This makes him physically weaker than other Infecteds, however, living with the consequences of such a decision suggests he may have a strong mind that must not be underestimated.

It also reveals a key vulnerability: it is obvious he fears losing control and suppresses his urges until he breaks. I shall take great pleasure in unravelling his psyche.

An initial dose of Afidene will be administered in October, once I have had the chance to learn more about his daily routine and behaviour. I shall monitor the effects of Afidene in the context of everyday life and, should it act as expected, will admit the subject to the Alastair Institute Psychiatric Hospital once his mental state has deteriorated to a point at which involuntary commitment would be appropriate. Once admitted, I can initiate the physical torture and provide subsequent Afidene doses to prepare the Infected soul for extraction. If the trial is successful, extraction will occur within three months of the initiation of physical torture.

The subject will be the thirteenth patient in my experiment, and arguably the most important. Should the trial go as planned, we shall soon be rid of the infection plaguing our society and be ready to accept the Shadows in the new world.

This concludes the final report in The Alastair Files. A more detailed follow-up report containing in-depth information regarding the initial development and further instructions will be released to members of the Infected World Organisation once Phase III is complete. At this stage, the information will also be distributed to government bodies so mass production of Afidene can occur.

It is time. The final experiment begins.
