"Paranoia gives you an edge in the OR. Surgeons play out worst-case scenarios in their heads. You're ready to close, you got the bleeder. You know it but there's that voice in your head asking. What if you didn't? What if the patient dies and you could have prevented it? So you check your work one more time before you close. Paranoia is a surgeon's best friend. We're all susceptible to it, to the dread and the anxiety of not knowing what's coming. It's pointless in the end, because all the worrying and the making of plans for things that could or could not happen, it only makes things worse. So walk your dog or take a nap. Just whatever you do, stop worrying. Because the only cure for paranoia is to be here, just as you are"

"and i don't feel safe anymore, oh, what a mess"

Holly entered the chief's office. "Dr Kepner, I'm very busy, make this quick", he said.

"Okay. Chief, I've decided to hand in my resignation"

"If this is about the merger-"

"It's not. My father always taught me to put my family first. I never really got what he meant until my husband died. I have a daughter that needs me. So I've decided to move to Ohio and stay with my parents and be a mother. So I'm giving you my notice"

"You are an extraordinary woman, Dr Kepner. I was lucky to have you"

"Thank you, chief"

She exited the room to see Alex standing there. She could tell by his face. He knew. "Alex...", she began, but he just walked away.

Alex and Owen were working on a patient while all the other residents watched on. "I need a 16 gauge here", Owen said. "I got it!" they all exclaimed.

"Woah, what's going on? It's four in the morning. Is everyone on call?"

"It's the merger. Everyone's scared to go home", Aurora said.

"I don't think the chief meant that people couldn't sleep"

"It's hard to sleep when your job's on the line"

"One of you, get as much type-specific blood as they'll let you have and meet us in surgery"

"I got it!" Kelly yelled and ran out with everyone following her.

Alex was wheeling a patient to the OR when he saw Lucy standing around the corner. "What are you doing here?" he asked.

"Working"

"Lucy, we talked about this. You're supposed to take another three weeks, really rest up"

"I have to come back now before I don't have a job to come back to"

"Lucy..."

"I have to show people that I'm not gonna die. Unless I sit alone in that trailer, then I am gonna die. I'm gonna die of boredom"

"Lucy..."

"Look, I heard about Holly, why don't we worry about that instead of me because I am clearly fine"

He just sighed and walked away.

Mark was following Derek, who was going to talk to Richard. "You're tired, you're angry, you'll say something you'll regret", Mark said. "Get out of here for a while. Go to the driving range"

"I have a surgery in an hour"

"Take a walk. Grab Meredith, take a walk"

"Meredith won't leave the hospital. None of them will. Everyone's awaiting word. Look, don't tell me Kelly's not worried"

Kelly ran through the doors carrying blood. "Is he in there? 'Cause I've got the blood!" she exclaimed, before slipping and falling, blood staining her scrubs and coat. "No, Kelly's worried", Mark replied.
