"The best gift I ever got was for Christmas when I was ten, my very first suture kit. I used it until my fingers bled and then I tried to use it to stitch up my fingers. It put me on the path to becoming a surgeon. My point is, sometimes the best gifts come in really surprising packages. Everyday we get to give the gift of life. It can be painful, it can be terrifying but in the end it's worth it, every time. We all have the opportunity to give. Maybe the gifts are not as dramatic as what happens in the operating room. Maybe the gift is to try and make a simple apology. Maybe it's to understand another person's point of view. Maybe it's to hold a secret for a friend. The joy supposedly is in the giving, so when the joy is gone, when the giving starts to feel more like a burden, that's when you stop. But if you're like most people I know, you give till it hurts, and then you give some more"

"spending all my nights just missin' you"

Thanksgiving Eve

Teddy, Cristina, Jackson and Beck were in the OR. "Oh, my God!" Beck explained. "That is the biggest pseudoaneurysm I've ever seen", Cristina commented. "It's at the suture line of the transplant. Her new heart is dying", Teddy said. "Damn it!" "Poor guy that brought her in, I think they were on their third date", Jackson said. "Doesn't look like a heart anymore", Beck said. "That's because it's not", Teddy stated. "It's a chunk of useless flesh that has to come out right now".

"You're taking the heart out? What are you gonna replace it with?"

"I don't know. We're gonna have to figure it out as we go"

Thanksgiving Day

Teddy, Cristina, Jackson and Beck were in Kelsey's room where Mike was. "Ok, wait, let me get this straight. You removed her heart?" Mike said. "Yes", Teddy replied.

"And she can live that way? Like what? Like a vampire?"

"Usually you'd connect a ventricular assist device to the heart, but since she doesn't have a heart...", Beck explained. "Dr Altman attached two devices to her blood vessels' ', Cristina interrupted, causing Beck to sigh and Jackson to chuckle. "This machine now pumps the blood through her body, which is basically a miracle". "I really like her, I like her a lot, but we've only had four dates", Mike said. "I'm supposed to have Thanksgiving with my family, you know? She was gonna join us, and now she's like a... She can really live without a heart?" "If you don't want to stay, we have a great nursing staff, great doctors", Teddy said. "She'll be in good hands".

"No, you know? She doesn't even have a family. And if it was me, I would want somebody here, so I'll stay"

Alex and Aurora were charting at the desk in the ER when a young blonde woman came over to them. "Excuse me", she said, and they both turned around. "I'm looking for Dr Mark Sloan". "See the guy who was burned trying to deep-fry a turkey?" Aurora asked, pointing over to where Mark was treating a burn. "Sloan's the one making him scream like a girl", Alex finished. She nodded and walked over to him. Alex and Aurora walked over to Callie as they all observed the conversation. "Dr Sloan?" she asked. "Yeah", he said, before looking up and looking slightly shocked.

"Hi. So this is a little weird, but...my name is Sloan Riley, and my mom's Samantha Reilly. And... I'm pretty sure you're my dad"

His eyes widened. Kelly walked over to them and looked confused. Aurora, Alex and Callie looked on with wide eyes.

Beck, Aurora, Cristina, Alex and Meredith were having lunch. "This is the best Thanksgiving ever", Cristina stated. "No obnoxious relatives, no stupid traditions". "Apparently, I have a new relative. I'm an aunt to a girl that's like five years younger than me", Aurora said. "I think we should go around and talk about what we're not grateful for", Beck suggested. "I'll start, the merger. They're like the plague". "You're doing that wrong", Meredith said to Alex, who was practicing sutures. "Can I show you?" "Man, you really are the chief's bitch", Cristina commented. "Well, in that case, you two are Teddy's bitches", Meredith replied, pointing at Cristina and Beck. "Maybe that's my problem, I'm nobody's bitch", Alex said. "You were Lucy's bitch", Cristina said.

"You're the bitch"

Callie, Arizona and Kelly were preparing dinner at Callie, Beck and Cristina's apartment when there was a knock at the dinner. Mark entered and they greeted him. He was soon followed by Sloan. The greeting for her was a lot less enthusiastic. "Welcome. Happy Thanksgiving. Who wants wine?" Callie said. "Ooh, I do", Sloan said. "No, you don't", Mark replied. "Hey, everybody. Well, the results are in. It turns out Sloan was right about her parentage. I am her dad. So here's another thing to be thankful for. Kelly, Sloan here is gonna move in with us for a little while". Kelly looked shocked and a crunch was heard. They looked to see she had cut off the tip of her pinkie finger. Mark and Callie rushed to help. "Ouch", she said, deadpan.

Christmas Eve

Kelly was fixing the Christmas tree in her and Mark's apartment when he came over. "How's it feel? Still tingling?" he asked, grabbing her hand to take a look.

"Oh, it's fine. I pretty much have full sensation"

"Great. Good. So..." He looked over at Sloan, who was sitting at the breakfast bar. "Have you... I mean, you think you can ask her how long she's planning to stay?"

"Mark, it's been a month, a really long one, and you've exchanged three sentences with her. Two of them were "Pass the cereal." So, maybe you can ask her yourself. She's pretty easy to like once you get to know her"

"Really?"

"No. She's a vapid, vapid girl, but she's your daughter. So try, just a little bit"

She pushed him and he walked over to Sloan.

Kelsey was enjoying the snow outside. Jackson looked at Beck to see her head tilted back, eyes closed, enjoying the snow. He looked at her, really looked at her. He already knew she was beautiful but something about her in that moment was so...pure. Like a child. Something fluttered in his chest. She opened her eyes and looked at him. She smirked. "What are you staring at, perv?" she asked. "Nothing", he shrugged. She started to shiver so he put his coat around her shoulders. She squinted at him and they stared at each other. They just stared at each other until Kelsey collapsed.

Christmas Day

Everyone was gathered at Meredith's house for Christmas. Owen was playing the guitar and Aurora was smiling up at him as he did so. Arizona and Richard were singing Baby, It's Cold Outside to the guitar music. Teddy and Owen shared a look, which Beck standing nearby noticed.

New Years' Eve

Kelly and Mark were in their apartment standing near Sloan. "It's New Year's Eve", she said.

"I know"

"She's showing no signs of leaving, no suitcase packed, nothing. If you don't talk to her right now, no more sex for you"

Derek, Mark, Arizona, Meredith and Kelly were operating. "Hang on, look at the clock", Derek pointed out. "That's seven, six...". Everyone joined in. "five...four...three...two...one... Happy New Year!" Kelly and Mark, and Derek and Meredith kissed through their masks.

Aurora was in the ER and went to check on a patient behind Teddy. She looked at Owen and smiled, as he was looking at her. Her smile faded as she realised he wasn't looking at her. He was looking at Teddy. She walked away.

New Year's Day

Aurora went out to the ambulance bay where Owen was. He was leaning against a wall. She stood next to him. "I'm not stupid, you know?" she said, and he looked at her. "I am not the girl who waits around for the guy that doesn't give a crap. I am not that girl anymore. I saw it, the way you looked at her. I saw it. And I can't ignore it. If you want her, go get her. I'm not gonna stop you. Because I don't want you to be with me because you feel like you owe me something and I...". He pressed her up against the wall and kissed her passionately. "I want you. I want you because I want to be. I want you because I love you", he said, stroking her cheek.

"Owen, don't just say that"

"I'm not just saying that"

He kissed her.
