"Surgeons aren't complacent people. We don't put our feet up. We don't sit still. Whatever the game is, we like to win. And once we win, we get a new game. We push ourselves; residents, attending. It doesn't matter how much we achieve. If you're a climber there's always another mountain. They take pictures of mountain climbers at the top of a mountain. They're smiling, ecstatic, triumphant. They don't take pictures along the way cause who wants to remember the rest of it? We push ourselves because we have to, not because we like it. The relentless climb, the pain and anguish of taking it to the next level. Nobody takes pictures of that. Nobody wants to remember. We just wanna remember the view from the top. The breathtaking moment at the edge of the world. That's what keeps us climbing. And it's worth the pain. That's the crazy part. It's worth anything"

"a smile to hide the fear away"

Jackson came out of his patient's room to where Beck was standing. He looked at her. "What?" she asked.

"This... This patient, I can't find the heartbeat"

"That's called death. Call the morgue, dumbass"

"He's not dead. He's sitting up, he's talking"

"You're so lucky you have a famous last name"

"Take a deep breath, sir", Beck said, examining the patient. "Having...trouble doing that", Todd said, breathlessly. "Grow up, Todd", his girlfriend said. "When he was nine, they removed his right lung", Jackson informed Beck. "Now the other one's crapping out on me", Todd added. "Or maybe you're having an anxiety attack because I asked you to move in with me", his girlfriend suggested. "I can't find his heart", Beck said.

"Oh, yeah? Me neither"

"No, I really can't"

"Who's the dumbass now?"

"I can't... I can't...", Todd stuttered, lying down. "Get a stat chest x-ray and page cardio!" Beck exclaimed.

Teddy was checking Todd's heart. "There she is. By your kidney", Teddy said. "My heart is by my kidney?" he asked. "That's why it was hard to hear your heartbeat", Jackson said. "And without a second lung in your chest cavity, your heart sort of drifted", Beck added. "It's called postpneumonectomy syndrome", Teddy explained. "The shifting caused bronchial compression. That's why you weren't able to breathe". "I'm the biggest bitch in the world", his girlfriend sighed, holding his hand. "Can you put it back where it goes?" Todd asked. "Yes. we're gonna use saline implants in your chest to keep it in place", Teddy explained. "Implants? Like what they use for...", his girlfriend said. "Fake boobs", Beck answered. Teddy glared at her and Jackson chuckled. "You wanna put...? I can't have...", Toddy stuttered. "No. I'm a guy. Ok? I'm a guy's guy". "You won't even see them", Beck scoffed.

"Yeah, but still. Come on, man, you know what I'm saying. I mean, how am I supposed to, you know..."

"What, pick up women?" his girlfriend asked. "You mean, how do you explain your boobs to the next chick dumb enough to date you?"

"Molly"

She stormed out. "I'm just gonna say this to get it out of the way, you totally deserved that", Beck stated. "Do I have a choice?" Todd asked.

"Do you like to breathe?"

Callie and Lucy were working in her lab when Bailey came in. "You rang?" Bailey asked. "Yeah", Callie replied. "We're this close to making headway on my cartilage, but I keep getting 42 intern questions an hour. Can they rotate through your service just for today".

"Sure!"

"Thanks", Callie and Lucy said in unison. Bailey started fidgeting with the equipment and Lucy and Callie shared a look. "What's with you?" Lucy asked. "Nothing", Bailey replied. "Is it the guy?" Callie asked. "What guy?" Lucy asked.
