"You guys don't have to!" Carlos exclaimed as the van bounced along the somewhat busy street.
Carlos woke up to a shock this morning. First, Carlos was given some breakfast, which was the first time that has happened in a long time. Second, Xylein said he would allow Carlos and Sammy to stay with the group. He just asked that they help where they can.
"It's not a problem," Xylein said, giving Carlos a reassuring smile, "Besides, this benefits everyone if we stay together."
Kat rolled her eyes but remained silent. She didn't emit any negative emotions, but she seemed to still be on edge around the two siblings that have wrangled their way into her home.
Sammy bounced up and down in her seat excitedly as she watched the cars going by. Carlos felt bad for Sammy never really getting to see this part of the city. The part where there are decent people.
But Carlos was always super cautious and hated that his sister was here right now.
Everyone was given a "chore" list to do.
Xylein and Kat, being the oldest and only ones who could legally work, were going to head off to their part-time jobs. Carlos was ecstatic that they were able to get money, though it was very little and barely got them any food.
It was still money! That is way better than Carlos running around hoping to find some spare change lying around!
While they worked, Taylor would always go off and see if she could find any nice restaurants that had spare food to hand out.
She was very good at getting handouts.
Sammy begged Taylor if she could go with them, and before I could protest, Taylor and Xylein both said it was alright for her to go with Taylor.
Carlos was about to volunteer to go with them, but Kat said it would be better for Carlos to wait in the car. The people who chased them out of the warehouse were probably looking for Carlos and they would easily recognize him over his sister.
Kat did have a point, and Xylein agreed with her so Carlos doubted he could change any of their minds or attempt to sneak off anyways.
Carlos didn't like the idea of his little sister wandering around the streets without him.
He was always with her whenever she went out with him. If she didn't go out with him, then she stayed back, where Carlos knew it was safe. He did feel bad leaving Sammy to feel trapped, but he was just so scared.
Xylein apparently could tell that Carlos was extremely worried about not knowing where his sister was. He promised she would be safe with Taylor anyways since she had the stronger ability out of all of them.
Kat scoffed at that.
Carlos slumped into his seat, still wary about the idea knowing that he and Sammy were the strongest out of the group.
But he wouldn't let them know that. They couldn't know that.
Carlos was going to stick with his vow to himself for the rest of his life, and the fewer people that knew about it, the better.
Kat parked the car in a 24-hour parking lot and turned it off. Carlos stiffened as he watched everyone get out and go their separate ways.
"Bye Car-Car!" Sammy exclaimed, standing on her tiptoes and squeezing Taylor's hand, "We'll be back soon!"
Carlos couldn't help but smile at how happy Sammy was. He knew this was better for Sammy, to be hanging someone else other than him.
It still didn't stop his worried thoughts.
