Victoria’s POV
Victoria,
You must leave. Since you found this, we are gone. But you, you must leave. The trees have been talking to me and it isn’t safe. I knew, since you were a child you could hear their voices so now you must listen to them.
Goodbye my sweet.
The thin paper softly whispered the words into my ears again and again before I curled my fingers around it to shut the sound off. I now understood what my Grandmother was finally talking about. These things, MindShredders were the reasons why my Grandmother and Grandfather were probably dead. My hands tightened into fists and the delicate paper in my left palm made a crumbled squeak before I released quickly cutting off the small noise.
I looked up at the high barren ceilings, if you could call them that. I knew these MindShredders lived underground but their homes were nothing to the brilliance I saw when I first stepped into Adrianne’s kingdom. No, these “homes” were deep in the ground, the walls were dark and dry soil that held no evidence of life. I decided when I first got here that my cell, or “home” as these monsters want me to call it, was the best on the small row of thick doorways lining the hole we were in. I noticed how each shit hole was covered in animal skins, and their beds were made on the ground, with the walls just as dark and dingy as the rest of the soil. Nothing about this place made me feel like home, nor did it make me want to stay here for long.
I raised my hand up to touch my ratted hair, pulling a few strands forward to look at the damage these few hours have done to my hair. Just those few strands made my brown curly hair seem like a goddess’s gift to me when I looked at the knotted balls of hair in my fingertips. I used the dirty wall to prop myself up, stumbling over to the cracked mirror the MindShredder installed in my home just for me. My face was an entirely different matter, and I almost wished nobody would come to save me before I had the chance to at least take some of the dried mud off of my face.
“My, my… Does the little dearie want to wash her pretty little face?” A crackled worn voice whispered behind me, her smell alarming my senses she was there even before she spoke.
It was the same little old monster that shoved me into this dark hole, “Not that there isn’t anyone to impress though, right Grandmamma?” Apparently even when you’re a monster you like to be called something human. It shivered to make me think of this thing the same age as my Grandmother, but I hid my disgust as I turned to face her
The little old monster cackled, and ran her finger in a circle in the little bowl of water she had, and I could almost see how the clear liquid became dark glossy oil. “Actually dearie, there is someone here that very much would like to see you, so you must be prettied.”
I shuddered and responded slowly, “Oh? Who would like to see me?”
The only thing the my old Grandmamma did was wrap her long thing fingers around my wrist and pull me closer, making me breath in a wrath of her stench, “Why, it’s the one man you should love, he is our leader, Aodh.”
