Victoria’s POV
There wasn’t any clear thought left in my mind after the moment I stared into that things eyes. Everything was a blur and even if I caught glimpses of the elves I knew, their bodies were contorted by the cruel grasp of that things own mind. Much of what I remember is being pushed to and fro as my feet stumbled across the grass. I could vaguely remember the soft dew soak into my shoes from the grass, so I concluded that we must have been walking for a while. Soon, my senses began to become clear to me and all I could smell was the wrenching stench of sweat and blood surrounding me, covering the monsters walking beside me. Like a strong barricade, all that was circling me were those things.
After walking for felt like miles, the monsters finally stopped in their tracks, and slumped into a slinky sort of line that stretched in front of me, as well as behind me. Their attitudes were confusing to me, and I searched the now looming forest for a clue. To no avail did I find bit a slim bit of evidence why these creatures were doing this strange activity.
Suddenly a larger boom sounded in the distance.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The noises were getting louder, I started to look everywhere for the source, but it seemed like nothing was moving nor was anything being disturbed in the distance.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The ground opened into a large mouth with its insides displaying the dark depths inside. Each tree surrounding the gaping hole started to slide into the dark abyss and I shivered as I watched a small entanglement of a Robin’s nest fall in as well. Feeling the loss of such a defenseless animal, I felt exactly like those little blue eggs; small and defenseless. I didn’t have much time to ponder on the death of the little birds as the monster behind me nudged me forward and continued to until I fell into the same quick pace as the others were in. They seemed almost entranced; their legs close to tripping over each other but never did any of them actually lose the constant eerie pace. Looking in front of me, I noticed that the hole was actually pulsing, almost like it was making a small swallowing movement as each monster entered it’s large abyss.
I felt it was strange that the panic hadn’t settled inside of me yet. I decided that my thoughts were still so numb that I wasn’t reacting correctly, nor was I even fighting back. The monsters didn’t look like monsters, most looked like normal people with just the lack of sense to patch up their clothing. If you couldn’t smell, anyone would assume that these things were just ordinary people, with a lack of fashion sense of course.
I let my eyes wonder down to their hands, and I almost gagged. The monster in front of me had his hands just limply dandling at his sides, while his clawed bloodied fingers help the head of an elf. I knew from the graceful shape of the ears that it couldn’t be anything less. I was thankful that I couldn’t see the face, my nerves were now kicking in, and I knew I would gag pretty soon.
Avery’s POV
I bounded through the underbrush, not really caring about the broken branches or the obvious trail I was leaving. The only thing I was concerned about what finding Victoria alive, then after that probably brutally killing every single monster around her. I almost laughed at myself hearing my thoughts go to that extreme.
All the trees blurred into one, as I jumped over jagged rocks and slipped around the trees that were to unfriendly to get out of my way. Finally I started slowing down, because all I could smell was the unearthly stench to MindShredders. I gingerly started to place my feet where I knew I wouldn’t make a sound and gazed into the small clearing in front of me, waiting to see the little bastards!
Suddenly I watched as the ground started to shake a little, and open into a yawning kind expression. I also watched as a shimmering block veil started to fall from the skies, and unclouded my vision to the assembly line of monsters right in front of me. The wrath of their stench was now full on, and I had to turn away to empty my stomach of all its contents before I could even handle looking back at them. As I turned back I only noticed one thing.
Victoria. She was right in the middle of all of those nasty things, and I could see that they had her bound by the hands in some strange intricate knots. Her face was just a blank slate, and my stomach churned to think that the MindShredders had already sucked all her beautiful thoughts out of her head.
In my relief, I noticed how suddenly her face perked up, and it seemed like she finally started to notice her surroundings, but as soon as she lowered her head, she whipped her head away and looked in my direction. I almost stood up and shouted her name out of sheer relief she had actually looked this way. I bit my cheek and held fast to where I was, wincing as I tasted blood in my mouth.
I looked back to Victoria and actually noticed why she had looked this way in the beginning, the MindShredder in front of her held a decapitated head in his clawed hands, and my stomach lurched into my throat again, and I was thankful I had nothing else to throw up.
The pace of the monsters started to speed up, and Victoria’s hands were pulled forward in a sudden movement, the monsters dragging her forward as she tried to regain her balance. My anger stirred inside of my heart, and I jumped up, lurching forward to start charging at the disgusting monsters that had ruined so many lives, and was now almost ruining mine.
Two soft hands pulled me back behind the underbrush and covered my mouth with a cloth, placing my body on the soft grass before my eye lids became too heavy for me to keep them open.
“Now isn’t the right time to fight Avery but we will soon…”
And darkness took me under their canopy as I was covered into an unconscious state of relaxation.
