As we kept walking, I could feel the heat of the sun slowly begin to hide behind the rolling hills. I was often told by my Grandmother that the reason the sun hid away from the moon, was because it was secretly in love with him, and was too shy to say hello. I could remember the cold winter nights that my Grandmother would sit down and tell me that story right before bed time. I would listen intrigued by how the sun was in love with the moon, and how it made me ponder if the moon was in fact in love with sun as well. It was a beautiful memory and as I watched the sun finally cease to shine it was all too real in front of my eyes that I turned away.
We had been walking for what seemed like hours, so when Adrianne finally waved her hand to me I was thankful.
“This is where my people live; I hope you will enjoy your stay here.” Adrianne smiled at me, and pulled away the hanging willow branches and stepped aside.
I looked in awe at the beautiful and intricate way the elves had positioned their homes. High in thetrees were secured dwellings made of wood that could hold a family of four. The craftsmanship was amazing and filled with love. Everywhere were bridges connecting all of the homes going every which way, but never touching another bridge. I saw elves walking across them going about their business, greeting their neighbours as they passed.
Tosh coughed, “Ms. Greyhold,” He paused waiting for me to turn and then pointed to Avery, “I’m sure he hasn’t actually introduced himself, so I will. Avery is my commander of my spy units, and also your personal body guard. I hope the two of you will get along in a sophisticated and respectful manner.” His emphasis on respectful almost made the tension in the group thick enough to cut. I obviously caught on that there would be no romance going on.
I smiled back, surprising myself at how I actually hid my disappointment, “Of course, Sir.”
Tosh nodded, and turned to bow at Adrianne then walked away to what seemed the direction of his home.
Rowen also stepped ahead and spoke, “Ms. Victoria, I hope your stay here will be enjoyable and if you have any concerns please allow me to help you.” Rowen smiled and bowed to Adrianne as well before he departed, heading straight into the small bustle of people in the square ahead of us.
I noticed that Rowen would be the one that would most understand my feelings of home-sickness and frightened feelings with ease. But in contrast, Tosh would give me a straight answer towards my feelings of anger, or hurt. Even if they were opposites I could see why Adrianne had chosen each of them to be the ones who would stay by her side.
“I believe Avery can show you to your home, I must go now to deal with some matters,” Adrianne spoke softly and smiled at me.
I smiled back, “Thank-you for all of your help, I hope I will see you soon.”
Adrianne laughed, “Oh you won’t get rid of me that easy,” She waved as she walked away into the direction Tosh took.
My shoulders finally relaxed slightly, I felt so at home here and safe.
“Shall we go home then?” Avery asked me, coming to stand beside me.
I smiled and nodded, following him into the square.
NEXT MORNING
I stretched in my bed and slowly sat up. My room here was modest, with the same browns and greens the people wore covering the walls and floors. My bed was draped with beautifully stitched blue cloth, which was warm and inviting. Everything here was very peaceful and homey, as if I’ve been here many times before.
A wooden tray was left on my vanity that held a nice plate of food on it. Smiling, I went to sit at my vanity taking in the steaming bowl of porridge, and the delectable bowl of fresh fruit with an eager stomach.
I ate slowly and thankfully, looking out my window to again watch as elves slowly started to pour out of their homes to gather on the bridges or in the square. This place seemed very tranquil and orderly, it was like a dream. I noticed with awe as Tosh and a handful of men in the same black suits walked through the square, towards the forest. People moved out of the way and greeted them with smiles and waves lie they were heroes.
Finished with my breakfast I slowly brushed my hair, and put on a beautiful dress that matched the dark green of some of the leaves on the trees of the forest. It fit my nicely, with enough room to move and look shapely in the process. No way was it as beautiful as Adrianne’s, but I loved it.
A knock came, and I called the person in. Avery stepped in slowly, cautiously, and looked up at me.
“So, Adrianne wants me to take you around… And uh,” Avery blushed, losing some confidence, “Iwas wondering if you wanted to come with me for the day, not like a date of anything!” He assured me, blushing still.
I laughed and hooked my arm with his, “I would love too, Commander Avery of the spy units,” I smiled at him, trying to tell him not to be nervous.
He caught on quickly and stood straight, plastering his usual smirk on his face, “What a pleasure it will be Ms. Greyhold.”
Hopefully you guys like it, I think it went a bit shorter than I thought... But I'll try to write more today (:
Have an awesome day <3
