Marshall went home as soon as the sun disappeared. Gumball sat there, his mind racing with thoughts. He had totally forgotten why they had grown apart, then he remembered the day, it was over 70 years ago and Gumball's parents had just had the ceremony making him the official prince. That's when it started. They snuck out less and less. Their meetings in the woods and in abandoned parks dwindled. Soon work began to pile up and time for fun and adventures was over. His parents, before they disappeared, figured it best to push Gumball directly into his position instead of taking it slow. Of course he had his lessons growing up but those paled in comparison to the meetings upon meetings he had to endure. In a way it was like how mother birds pushed their young from the nest, or how sometimes parents threw their children in the water. The only way Gumball wouldn't sink was if he grew up. That meant that he had less time for fun, less time for Marshall.
Marshall on the other hand was upset and was caught off guard by Gumball's distance. He had let himself feel when he wasn't sure that would've happened again. So when he got hurt he lashed out and therefore they became more like enemies then friends and didn't interact much, only when Marshall had been doing wrong in the candy kingdom. But anyone could tell he did it for Gumball's attention. A melancholy sigh left his lips. Gumball leaned against the head bored of his bed, all this defiantly threw him off his balance.
But now they were friends again and he was happier then he had been for the past 70 years. Remembering what had happened between them in the lab brought a blush to his face. "Ughhhh! He said we should forget about that" the prince mumbled. "Why don't my brain let me" he sighed before getting up and looking around for something to do. Anything to keep his mind off the other. His smell, his smirk, the way he talked in a confident and cocky way.
He was still full of energy and ready to go, but it was night time and the most he would be able to do was paperwork until he passed out from utter boredom.
Marshall on the other hand was just arriving home. The extremely tired king took off his shirt and swung it near his hamper. With a 'tch' he floated into the bathroom to brush his teeth and hair. It was odd going to bed at this hour, being with Gumball really threw him of his normal schedule. After he finished cleaning himself up he floated over to his bed.
Just as he was about to drift off to sleep he remembered Gumball and how he kissed him when he got hurt, although it most likely didn't mean anything his mind began racing with thoughts and sleep was seeming harder and harder. There were a lot of questions too, such as—why had they all of a sudden become so close? Did Gumball really mean to kiss his hand? How were they going to get along after so many years of separation? And why did he even care? The truth was he could kill Gumball's subjects just because he was bored, he was bad and Gumball didn't even have bad in his dictionary. Maybe he wanted to take over the candy kingdom and make them all his slaves? He chuckled. That wasn't it. He let his hair fall over his eyes. Why did it matter? Why did the thought of that not please him? Confused he sat up. "what the glob?" he half growled, running his pale fingers through black locks of soft hair.Gumball was just beginning to nod off when there was a hard knock at the door. Peppermint came in without even looking, Her face was pale and her hands were shaky. Clearly something was wrong. "S-sir" she said taking his hand into hers "I'm so very sorry" his brow furrowed as he gave her a confused look "sorry for what?" He asked. She looked up, seemly on the verge of tears "I received a message from the queen of the night-o-sphere a-and she mentioned an arranged marriage of some kind and I assume she meant-" at that point her eyes over flowed with tears, and quickly he went to comfort the poor woman. Gumball sat on the floor to get closer to her level, leaning forward "shhh" he coed putting a hand on her shoulder "I'm almost positive this is a mistake or a misunderstanding, I am a male and she is informed I have no daughter so I will simply have to go and straighten this out" This seemed to calm her down but the worry in her eyes hadn't faded "yes sire" she bowed quickly saying a goodnight before taking her leave with a handkerchief stuffed over her face. With a heavy heart Gumball stood to his feet padding across the floor to his bathroom. Seeing just one of his candy subjects so upset hurt him greatly, he hoped soon he would get it sorted out and everyone would rest easy. "Maybe she sent the message to the wrong kingdom" he thought aloud as he walked to his bed and turned off the bed side lamp.
Marshall closed his eyes, happy he was able to finally relax until a knock rang from down stairs.
"ughhh" he groaned floating sleepily down the latter. "Who" he cut himself off with a yawn and then continued "who's there?" He asked. When no answer came he opened the door starting to get a little heated. A short, fat man with horns and brownish red skin stood there looking up at him "what do you want? Scram!" He ordered it around, realizing it was a resident of the night-o-sphere. "Sir" the short red goblin man said quiet boldly "the queen requests you". He pushed his hair back and scratched his stomach before letting a low growl escape his throat "Mom".
