It was probably best that they spoke about their feelings and laid everything out in the open. Marshall found it harder then Gumball. He was so used to keeping those feeling pushed aside that when the time came he struggled. The prince understood though, and happily listened to all he had to say. They'd laid on that blanket for well over two hours, and they deserved it after all of the years they spent pretending it didn't kill them to be apart.
Gumball was facing Marshall, his pale pink fingers nervously playing with the buttons on his flannel.
"Thank you. I.. was.. afraid. I presumed we would fall into old habits.. and I didn't want to have to loose you all over again" Bubba blushed, keeping himself focused on the buttons as he spoke. Marshall stared at the top of his head intently before reaching out and taking his chin between his pointer finger and thumb. He pulled those beautiful, almost purple looking eyes to meet his own.
"Before I didn't want you to be mine. My Mom.. was kinda distant from me as a kid. I didn't reunite with her until a while after the mushroom wars. You know my past with the ice queen.. how she became what she is.. and left me.. the thing is, no one who's ever cared has ever stayed Bubba. It's only been you. I've tried to shake these feelings after we.. grew apart but I can't loose them.. I can't loose you either" Embarrassment bloomed on his cheeks as the words tumbled out. His hands trembled in the others but Gumball reassuringly squeezed them before laying his cheek back onto the others chest. He felt the gentle thrum of the vampires heart. The soft rise and fall almost lulling him to sleep.
"We've got to head back soon" He whispered into the others chest, pink fingers curling into flannel and eyes closed tightly.
"I could stay with you like this forever" Marshall mumbled back, the arm around Gumball tightening it's grip around him.

It took a while for the boys to peel away from each other. They snuck back through the tunnels, Gumball clutching the basket and Marshall totting the blanket behind him lazily. The vampire sleepily stared at his princes messy hair. His eyes glassy as his mind raced. Abruptly he was pulled from his not-so-innocent thoughts by the sharp smell of burnt cookies. Gumball turned, scratching the back of his head sleepily.
"What's wrong? We have to go Marshall" A hand fell to his hip as he cocked a brow at the man who was now sniffing the air like a dog.
"Do you smell that gummy?" His voice was husky and curious but the prince didn't fall for it.
"Smell what? All I smell is—"
"Smoke. I smell smoke" Gumball didn't say anything for a long moment before turning back to the path. "Maybe you drank to much because I can't smell anything"
This only warranted a huff as they began walking again. Before they reached the top of the hill Marshall began complaining again about the scent, but Gumball only rolled his eyes.
"If you're pulling a prank on me I swear to gl— GLOB. Oh my Glob!"
Marshalls gaze snapped away from Gumball. His eyes widened as they adjusted to the dark. Just a few miles off, where usually the moon silhouetted the Candy Kingdom, a very noticeable plume of smoke blocked stars from the sky. Wind whipped against the princes face, his heart sinking as the smell finally filled his nose. Before either of them could argue about anything Marshall had grabbed him under his arms and lifted him. He now took the form of an almost cartoonishly large bat creature. It's claws held him in a painfully tight grip as he lifted off of the ground and barreled toward the Kingdom.
It was worse up close. The fire was concentrated to the main part of the castle, toward the top where Gumball's laboratory and bedroom would be. Screams emitted from every which way. Molten sugar dropped from the candy walls and fires flared up around. Cotten candy trees burned, ice cream cone towers– or what was left– crumbled and fell away.
There was a flash of blond and Fiona was  at his side. Soot smudges coated her like a leopard.
"Gumball!" Her voice was shrill, making him jump. "I— We've been LOOKING ALL OVER FOR YOU" Cake placed a paw to her sisters back and shot a glare toward Marshall.
"Where did you find him—" Gumball quickly stepped in front of her angry eyes and put his hands up defensively. "It doesn't matter! What's going on here?!"
"Some crazy girl!" Fi screamed, throwing her hands toward the sky. "No one knows who in the night-o-sphere she is!"
"The people! Where are my sub–"
Now cake stepped forward, her breathing fast and panicky. "We got 'em out baby! We lost that crazy right as y'all showed up!"
Fiona threw her arms around Gumball, surprising him as he figured she surly was going to punch him. "We thought she got you Gumball!" He patted her back before pushing her back gently.
"I'm fine—" A large Gumdrop cut through the air, knocking Cake a few feet back. Fiona pivoted around at a supernatural speed and rushed toward the feline. Marshall's gaze fell to the middle of the peanut bridge, where a hooded figure stood. It stalked toward them, floating a few inches above the ground. Gumball narrowed his eyes but before the recognition caught up to him Marshall spoke.
"Mojo you —"
"Now don't get your baby's in a bunch Mr. Abadeer My instructions were not to harm you. But hey I didn't cause this destruction anyway~ I simply.. planted the seeds?" A wave of maniacal laughed rolled through his as he tilted his head back and let out what could only be described as rancid laughter. Gumball's face contorted into a look of hatred, his fists clenching.
"What's the math man?! How is this funny?!If you've got a bone to pick, do it with me! Not my entire kingdom!"
The warlock had stopped laughing, wiping away a tear from his eye as a devilish smirk creased his pea green face. "Perhaps you shouldn't have left your experiments just laying about Prince"
"What are you talking about?" Fiona chimed from Gumball's side.
Mojos black eyes narrowed but his smirk never left his face.
"What don't you ask her?"
