“Az?” Came the voice of his beautiful mate. He turned around to see Gwyn propping herself up, her back resting against the headboard.

He almost ran towards her and sat down beside the bed, this time Majda moved away from him. Azriel couldn’t believe his eyes, she was back. But his shadows, his shadows had again become silent. He was confused. Why weren’t his shadows happy to see Gwyn?

Why were the obeying his leash. Az took off his leash on them, yet they still didn’t move, they stayed behind Azriel. He could sense the life come back to them but-but they were still sad. They had come back to life for a second, but now they were, they felt like they were dead again.

Azriel could feel their presence and yet he couldn’t at the same time. Something was wrong, something was wrong. But he couldn’t focus on that anymore, he focused on Gwyn but as soon as he tried to cup her face with her hands, she moved back and flinched.

She flinched. She flinched at his touch. That had never happened before. What was wrong, what was wrong. His mind had a million questions and he had answers for none of them.

But he didn’t give up, even if Gwyn didn’t want him. He couldn’t. She was his mate, and-and he had made a mistake.

So he continued but he didn’t touch her, “Gwyn I’m so sorry. I-I never meant to hurt you that day-” Gwyn opened her mouth to speak but Azriel continued, “I shouldn’t have made you choose.

I am so fucking sorry Gwyn. I-I’m sorry, ” He was never the one for words, so he hoped, he hoped that this would be enough, that this would restore their friendship.

But Gwyn looked at him with a dumbfounded expression that only broke his heart even more. But this time, his shadows tried to soothe him.

He could sense that they were hurt as well but-but there had to be something he could do.

But then Gwyn spoke, “I- I don’t know what to say, ” And then she started looking around the room, like- like she had lost something. But then her gaze settled on Rhysand, and Azriel could have sworn that they talked.

Gwyn continued, “You, you’re the high lord, ” She said, and this time, everyone was confused. Gwyn had stopped calling Rhysand, ‘high lord’, a long time ago. Why do it again now?

Rhysand gulped visibly. Even he was nervous. He then took one step closer to the bed, and Gwyn clutched her sheets, she was scared. “Yes” Rhysand said and his voice broke.

Azriel knew by his brother’s sad expression, that he had connected the dots that neither Azriel or anyone else had. He then stepped closer, and asked Gwyn,

“Would you mind if I look into your memories?” And Gwyn froze. Azriel could see Gwyn was contemplating whether to let him see in her mind or not.

But there was an expression on her face, that he could not decipher. But then Gwyn looked at Rhysand, her eyes full of determination and glistening tears, “Yes”.

Azriel’s patience was wearing out. What the hell is going on? What the hell is going on? Was the only question on his mind.

And then Rhysand closed his eyes for a minute. No one spoke anything. When he opened his eyes, a tear left his eye.

Azriel’s patience finally wore off and he shouted, “WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON! ” And Gwyn flinched at his words.

He then looked at Gwyn with an apologetic expression, but a tear had left her eye. He was just about to apologize when Rhysand suddenly spoke up,

“Don’t, it’s no use, ” And Azriel would have shouted on Rhysand, but then he saw the solemn expression on his face.

Azriel forced his brother to meet his gaze, to explain what was going on. And when Rhysand continued, his voice broke,

“Gwyn-Gwyn’s memories of the last year are-are gone. Her last memory present is that she-…. she woke up in the library, after a nightmare about the-” Rhysand didn’t complete his sentence.

So she had forgotten about everything. Forgotten about their banter, forgotten about the night on solstice and forgotten-forgotten about the real him, who was only visible to Gwyn. And Azriel could’ve sworn that the world stopped spinning when Rhysand said those words.

A/N : Heyaa, I changed the plot at the last moment. Now if you don’t like this plot, I really don’t know what to do.
