Chapter 7

They both got home early the next morning, as hard as Annie tried Mikasa wouldn't tell her anything about this girl she was in love with- she made it pretty clear that she didn't want to talk about it not matter what Annie did to try and convince her. Even though it hurt her she wanted to find out about this girl, she'd never seen Mikasa so emotional, that night the alcohol had melted her frozen heart and it awoke something further in Annie, seeing Mikasa be emotional made her feel different, it was something she wanted to see more of but Mikasa had already crawled back into her hard shell, not willing to let Annie back in.

'Uh well we're home now' Mikasa sighed picking up the post on their doorstep, things have been awkward between them since last night 'do you want me to make you some food?'

'No I'm fine' Annie replied opening the door and walking into the familiar penthouse, the familiarity made feel relief, especially since Mikasa had seemed so unfamiliar lately.

'There's a letter for us' Mikasa held up a fancy patterned envelope titled Dear Mrs & Mrs Leonhart-Ackerman and handed it to Annie who ripped it opened promptly, inside there was an invitation- Hitch and Jean's valentines day engagement party; great.

'This looks like fun' Annie sarcastically stated throwing it down onto the counter 'at least I don't have to stress too much about making valentines plans for Hitch'

'You still haven't spoken to Hitch yet?'

'Nope but I am planning to'

'You need to stop putting it off' Annie could see Mikasa shift uncomfortably, Annie had the underlying feeling she was hiding something but she brushed it off, she was probably still shaken from last night

'I know but I don't really want to after a long flight, I will rest and then try to call her' Annie sighed her head aching, to her Hitch was only an after thought 'enough about my sad relationship, since its valentines soon how about you send that girl some flowers or something'

'I told you to stop bringing that up, I was drunk and talked too much- I am trying to get over her' Mikasa seemed angry at the intrusion of the topic 'and we now have plans on valentines day so I cant be chasing some girl'

'Don't tell me you actually want to go to Hitch's engagement party'

'I do, I think it will be fun, she came to our wedding so its only fair we go to her events, even if its hard for you to see her marrying someone else'

'To me it just seems like more faking our loving perfect marriage, I don't think I have the energy to do that, I'd much rather tell Hitch I'm not feeling well and stay home'

'As much as I love to play hospitals, we're going, to be supportive of Hitch'

'I hate you' Annie furrowed her brows, she really didn't want to go to this especially if it meant she was going to have to be around people, she didn't know anything about the girl Mikasa loved, what if she was there? She knew how it felt to be ignored all night, she didn't want to be ghosted by both Hitch and Mikasa, the need to know was killing her

'Now I need to get to work, I don't have any time to rest' Mikasa stood up and started to walk out, leaving Annie behind her

'When do I need to start? Since we'll be working together'

'Um whenever you want but remember-'

'Don't stress yourself- I know you've told me a hundred times' Annie laughed 'I think I'll go in briefly today to sort out some stuff and then I'll catch up with you later to discuss the hotels?'

'Sounds great. I'll see you later'

Annie rested down on the couch as she watched Mikasa leave with that breathtaking walk of hers, those feelings kept crawling back whenever she looked at Mikasa it felt like she had thousands of bees in her stomach, swarming around- it just kept growing and growing, she had to find a way to stomp this feeling, it was beginning to affect her brain too much, she thought maybe if Mikasa had a girlfriend then she wouldn't feel so.. interested.
