Annie felt like there was something wrong in the air the past week, ever since her and Mikasa had kissed again things had been different, it was like the other one didn't exist. Their weeks went on like normal just they had barely spoke because they both knew the implications of talking to each other, its not like she avoided Mikasa, it was just that she tried her best to take no notice of her. She went to bed every night facing away and they sat in silence every morning eating breakfast. The last thing Annie wanted to do was lose control again. Every night her dreams were filled with that evening, her mind grasped at the feeling of Mikasa's lips against hers, trying desperately to make up for the fact the second she got what she wanted it was gone again. Every time she looked at Mikasa her mind couldn't help but wander back to that night, its not like she wanted to imagine what would have happened if Mikasa let down her walls but thats all that played on her brain, she'd do anything to hear her say she loved her again.

Annie shut her eyes as she leant back into the couch, she fiddled with her wedding ring as she let herself get lost in the silence of her penthouse. it was around midday and the sunlight from the windows warmed her skin, she had Hitch's bachelorette tonight so she decided to take the day off, she needed to charge up before the long night of social interaction.

She kept her eyes shut as she heard the door open, continuing to enjoy the feeling of the sun on her skin.

'You're home early' she stated bluntly, not even turning her head as she heard Mikasa sigh loudly, thats probably the first thing she's said to Mikasa in days

'I got off early today' Mikasa replied as she sat down next to Annie

'You make your own hours, so I might as well ask why are you home early?' Annie opened her eyes and saw Mikasa waving two brightly coloured piece of paper in front of her face 'whats that?'

'A client gifted me two gift cards to the new ramen place down the street, I thought we could have lunch today and catch up'

'Why do we need to catch up we live together?' Annie frowned, she still didn't want to be around Mikasa, it was too much for her brain to handle 'I thought you didn't like having lunch with me since last time I tried I got rudely sent away'

'You're still mad about that?' Mikasa smiled quietly, she lent back into the couch with a loud groan 'to be honest Annie I've realised you're the only friend I have left, my two childhood best friends recently moved out of the city and adopted a dog, they rarely call me anymore. If I could invite someone else I would'

'Who said we're friends?'

'I-oh I just thought-' Mikasa's face looked stuck and shocked at Annie's comment.

'Im just messing with you' Annie laughed standing up 'lets go eat some noodles, the look on your face just there was hilarious'

'I hate you'

'I know' Annie sighed, she was going to have to try and push her feelings down for an hour, she was going to have to try and not make things weird again.

After a short walk down the street, they got to the restaurant, Annie kept her hands firmly in her pocket during the journey, she was tempted to grab Mikasa's hand as she watched it move gently next to her, she felt like an uncomfortable teenage boy on a first date, wondering whether she should grab her hand or not but in Annie's case the answer was obviously no. she scolded her brain for thinking romantically about this, this wasn't a date, it was just a lunch between slightly awkward friends.

She sat opposite Mikasa, who was quickly eating up her noodles, she watched in awe as Mikasa quickly ate. She was amazed at how beautiful she could look in the moment even with her hair messy and her face flushed from the steam of the hot bowl. Her ramen was still too hot for her to eat but she was fine with that, she was enjoying watching Mikasa have fun, she liked the way she smiled to herself every time she took in a mouthful. There was nothing better than seeing her happy, her smiles had been rare lately but still they always weakened Annie's knees.
