The spring semester began a lot quicker than seemingly possible. Classes, Quidditch, and a sneaky prankster took up my days. Our match against Gryffindor was fast approaching as the first week of February drew closer so Miles was constantly on edge, which meant he was more annoying than usual.
"Look, our game is tomorrow. Now is not the time for jokes," he scolded at the end of practice after I made some joke about Cassius' uniform.
"Chill out, Miles. We're going to be fine."
"We can't be just fine, Prince," he snapped. "You've got to focus or we're screwed."
I crossed my arms. "It's a team sport, you know."
"Right." He glanced around. "Everyone needs to focus." He met my gaze. "Go to sleep. Eat a snack before the game. We'll walk down here together at 5:30 sharp."
Before any of us could say anything, he stormed off the Quidditch pitch.
"Merlin's beard, he's so tense," Cassius complained while we grabbed our bags off the ground.
"Honestly, Prince, could you just take one for the team and sleep with him? It would probably help," Adrian added.
"Oh, but Adrian, I wouldn't want to come between your relationship," I soothed, taking my bag from Cassius. "No one can kiss his ass like you."
"I don't kiss his ass," Adrian glared as the team laughed.
"Right, and the sky isn't blue."
He left too. "You're trouble, Prince," Cassius laughed, falling in step beside me as we made our way back to the castle.
"Just enough to get me by."
He rolled his eyes before changing the subject.

The next day was full of Quidditch talk. Everyone picking sides, mostly against us. Somehow, Slytherins got a bad rap. Honestly, how that happened is beyond me.
After school, I got ready before meeting the team in the courtyard. I stood with Draco while we waited for everyone.
"What's on your mind?"
"Nothing."
"You better come clean or Miles is going to sense it out with his super Quidditch senses," I teased. When he met my gaze, my smile faded. "What's wrong?"
"He's getting out."
"What? Now?"
"No, but they're staging a coup. They want to get all of them out."
"I mean, we knew that was going to happen."
"It's supposed to happen this week."
"This week? I thought they were going to wait."
"That's what my mother said," he sighed, shaking his head. "I should be happy."
"Well, we all know how I feel about him."
"He's my father."
"I know," I nodded. "But it's still okay to be happy or sad or mad or whatever you want to feel after the situation he's put you in. And yes, we both know he's the reason you've been given the task you have. No other death eater is given such a big first task."
"Maybe he just trusts me more than the rest of you."
"The rest of us? You know what my first job was? You know the hell I've dealt with? If you want to take that on, then by all means, take it. Because if that's what his trust looks like, then I want nothing to do with it." We glared at each other before we heard footsteps behind us.
