The next day, I went out with the entire Mendes family to explore the city of Toronto. I was lucky because it was snowing, so it was beautiful. Yet, surprisingly, to my LA born and raised ass, it wasn't too cold.
We grabbed breakfast at this cute little cafe Shawn recommended and then went shopping. I bought a lot of clothing for myself, presents for my friends, even clothes for Aaliyah (behind her parents and Shawn's back of course). We even got matching North Face jackets.
Afterwards, we got a late lunch at a fancy restaurant. It was surprisingly easy for me to converse with Shawn's family. Usually I wasn't great with adults but his parents were amazing and easy to talk to.
They told me stories of Shawn that he hadn't told me yet and we talked about my future. I told them about all my ambitions with the Olympics and my father's corporation. I even got around to the topic of school with Aaliyah, even if it was different in Canada than America.
It really seemed like his family liked me and I couldn't wait to see them again.
"You're such an amazing woman, Nova. My son always did have good taste" Karen said.
Aaliyah, who was once again sitting between us in the car, nodded excitedly, "Ooo, you think we can go to Japan to watch her at the Olympics?"
Manny laughed, "We'll see"
"I had an idea though..." Shawn trailed off.
"Well go on," Karen urged.
"Yeah, don't leave us hanging," Aaliyah nodded.
Shawn laughed, "I was thinking that when I tour Canada, you guys could come with me... Nova too"
"Yes!" Aaliyah immediately agreed.
"Liyah, if you have school you can't" Karen shook her head.
"Don't worry. It's in June and it's only one week. Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg" Shawn reassured.
"I... I have to check my gymnastics schedule but I think I can go" I nodded.
"It'll be so cool if we could spend more than two days together," Aaliyah smiled.
I nodded, "It would be"

After spending the entire day with Shawn's family, I was exhausted. But, there was still a New Year's party we planned to go to. I slowly got ready with Shawn, soft slow music playing in the background.
