48. to love and to cherish

"How does it feel?" I asked.
"What? Graduating?"
"Yeah, to be done with high school... we're growing up" I smiled, a hint of nostalgia in my voice.
Mara pursed her lips, "I'm really really gonna miss it here... Not only my friends at LACHSA but this whole city"
I looked out the window of my dad's hotel on the west side of Hollywood taking in the view of the gorgeous Hollywood Hills mansions and downtown LA skyscrapers in the distance, "It's pretty great isn't it"
This hotel was newer, and built on the rich side of town, unlike our Downtown LA location, and my dad opened it just in time to host his wedding here in the built-in church and ballroom. Rosalie had wanted to keep the ceremony small but when you're marrying a man like my father, it was almost impossible. The only thing she was able to compromise was that it wouldn't be a destination wedding, even if my dad was willing to buy the whole of Lake Como for her.
The wedding was the last big event before Rosalie, Mara, Venus, Bless, and my father would be moving to London. I'd been dreading this moment since I found out about it at the beginning of my senior year, but this would be one of the happiest days of my dad's life. I needed to put my issues aside and just let everyone be excited about their futures.
Bless smiled, "I think this will all be a welcome change for me"
"Including dad's marriage?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, including that" Bless rolled her eyes, "I may not act like it but I am glad that Dad is happy"
I wondered if Bless' decision to move to London would truly affect her happiness. She hadn't discussed her depression much with me since she told me about it, but I was sort of hoping that if moving to London could make her happy, maybe it would work the same miraculous spell on me.
Even considering the notion felt like I was betraying my mother and all the hard work, time, and money she'd put into my gymnastics training, but this idea that Rosalie planted in my head had been eating away at me since.
A knock sounded on the door and I drew myself away from my thoughts to stand up and answer it.
"What time is it?" I asked as I unlocked the slider.
"Uhm, almost 3:30, should we head down?" Mara asked.
"Probably" Bless nodded. We'd been lounging around in our dresses with our hair and makeup done for almost half an hour already anyways.
