Broken Providence

"It must've been a false alarm," Arielle said as the squad looked around the suspected area for any enemy infernal soldiers. Claire stood behind her looking into the forest, something called to her.

"why would they call for a squadron then?" she mumbled under her breath.

"Must've been confused," Sergeant Aoife responded. "Core Lieutenant colonel Arielle, Asusan is near, isn't it? we should check to see if there's any commotion there," she said heading back to one of the vehicles. Arielle nodded and began to move but suddenly stopped when she heard a twig snap that came from the forest surrounding them. her gut blazing with caution.

"Get down!" she jumped and brought Claire to the ground and covered her with her body. Gunfire ran toward the squad. Arielle cursed under her breath. "It's an ambush! Claire stay down!" she said getting out her staff. she glanced in the direction of the gunfire. "12 o'clock north!" she shouted. as she saw two infernal squad units and a tank. Their horned flame was painted on their tank hull. They were really outnumbered, they only had one option.  "RETREAT!" she yelled as she turned to find an opening as gunfire and fighting surrounded her. She turned, looking for Claire. Claire stood struggling against a soldier. Arielle began to call to her core but hesitated. She didn't trust herself enough to to use her element, Geo, with the guarantee she won't hit Claire, never Claire. Arielle saw two soldiers who crept up behind Claire and ran to interfere. She barely got there in time to save Claire from the ambush when more soldiers appeared. Arielle, who was one of the strongest fighters in the whole order of Trinity beneath the rank of the generals and their disciples, struggled against the increased numbers of soldiers. It was more than she could handle, but during the struggle, she had succeeded in freeing and giving time for Claire to escape. Claire and the others ran to get on their jeeps, Infernal soldiers right on their tail. Claire reached for Arielle.

"Arielle!" she called out.  Arielle turned to meet her eyes but couldn't shake the soldiers' loose. they dragged her to the ground landing harsh blows to her head and body, blocking any and all focus from her element. "Claire! Go!" she managed to get out before her voice collapsed. Claire refused to move. Infernal soldiers neared the jeep. Sergeant Guffler pushed her aside and floored it. Claire only saw her partner fade with the distance, unable to stifle a single word.

Arielle fought hard but they held her down. One soldier raised their gun to finish her but was stopped. A soldier stopped him before he pulled the trigger. The soldier held the general ranking. it looked like General Purid, the infamous villainous general known for his cruel and twisted ways.

"This one, we'll keep," he said with a hollow and terrifying grin. Arielle felt a pit in her stomach.
