"I'm sure he'll be excited," Tomi smiled up at the girl who towered over her, unlocking the door before she coaxed Alpine into her house. She was so very excited to tell Edward that someone was finally going to be helping her that the thought that Bella might be home had completely left her.
"Edward!" Tomi cheered, her face tainted with a light blush that was purely from the humid heat of the day, her smile strikingly bright when she looked up the stairs to where her boyfriend had appeared just now.
Her happiness was bitterly short-lived, though, because next thing she knew Edward was launching down the stairs and grabbing Alpine by the throat.
"Edward!" She shouted again, only in fear this time.
"Who are you?" He snarled at the girl, who's pale blue eyes flashed savagely and nails dug into the vampire's wrist.
"This-" Tomi shook her head as if she didn't believe what she was seeing. "This is Alpine. She wants to help me! Let her go, what the-"
Edward didn't look at her once, instead just bore his teeth and frowned deeper. "What are you doing with the bodies?"
Alpine cocked a brow. "What bodies?"
"What are you talking about, Edward?" Tomi swallowed, feeling suddenly choked up.
"Your scent is all over the bodies. Don't lie to me."
Alpine stared for a moment, something untold flashing in her features, and then moved to look at Tomi when she spoke up. "I'm giving them a peaceful death─ those who don't successfully become vampires. Freezing their hearts makes them die quickly, and painlessly."
Edward blinked. His jaw ticked. His hands didn't loosen.
"You..." Tomi swallowed. "You know who are making the new borns?"
"I'll tell you if your little boy toy let's me go."
Now Tomi was the one scowling. "Don't call him that." She moved her hand to lay it on Edward's cold arm. "Edward, let her go."
Edward, though hesitantly, let go of the girl who quickly stumbled back to her feet with a hand cupping her throat
"I dont know who's making them." She finally obliged, staring at Tomi still, as if Edward wasn't slowly wrapping an arm around her to take her away. "But I know he's making an army. I'm just trying to make people's deaths a little less painful."
