"She's okay?" Gwendolyn asked a bit tightly, trying to tie her shirt close against her abdomen to crop it.

Edward closed the door to their bedroom softly, using all the gentleness he could to make his way back to the living room. "She's fine." He replied drily, grabbing his bag that was filled with books he'd used for the last twenty years. Education systems really needed to start investing in newer version of those books.

"I-" she stopped, sighing through her nose. Edward was aware she hated apologizing, her thoughts were enough to see that— but she didn't deserve his kindness right now. "I am sorry, Cullen. For all it's worth."

"I know." He said matter-of-factly, still annoyed when he finished writing down a note for Tomi, who he guessed easily would have forgotten what they'd talked about since she had been so out of it. "I am not the one who deserves an apology."

"I am going to apologize to her too." Gwendolyn whispered, the frown plastered on her face making Edward relent a little in his annoyance. "I know I messed up."

"You need to tell her the truth." Edward murmured, too, not wanting to raise his voice in case they woke Tomi up.

The truth. The one thing that Edward had been keeping secret from Tomi to Gwendolyn's request. He was starting to think it was a bad idea.

"You can understand Edward," Gwendolyn shook her head, biting her lips— which were too red to be natural. "You can see inside my mind. But explaining it— explaining it is something else."

"She's smart," Edward narrowed his gaze on the weather outside. It was sunny, but windy enough to be cold. He'd have to wear a jacket to fit in. "Just sit down with her. Tell her that you've lived too long and now all of your memories mesh into each other and make you confused."

"That's simplifying it. Atrociously."

They shared a wavering glance. Edward could admit that yes, her mind was far more complicated than memories overwhelming every other sense, but Tomi deserved to understand. Last night was enough for him to see it was eating at her, and he hated for his mate to feel like that. He hated to feel it down the bond, how she wanted to be strong for everyone and exhausted herself in the process.
