Landens POV
I walked into my home happy with how the night had gone. I felt like Scarlett and I had had a good time and I was excited to get to know her more. I slipped off my shoes and hung my jacket on a rack by the door. Putting my keys in my pocket I swung into the livingroom. The house was cool compared to the outside temperature and the air was less thick.
Flicking the lights on there was an unwelcome guest on my couch. The dark purple walls highlighted his red tinted skin. He stood off of the couch, leaving an imprint of red tinted dust.
"Hello Landen." His voice echoed through the nearly silent house and it sounded like the foundation was groaning under just his presence.
"Keeper." I growled. The keeper and I knew a lot about each other, but he knew more about me. He had a way of staying mysterious.
"Landen, I have let you come very close to my world, digging through the quarries the way you do. I understand a young man like you, has a curious mind."
"What are you getting at?" I prayed he wouldn't take the quarries from me, I've worked so hard on new discoveries there.
"I'm getting at the fact you need to stay away from Raven."
"Who?"
His face looked confused, but it cleared quickly. "Oh yes. Scarlett of course." What would he have anything to do with Scarlett? With that he was gone, but the threats in the air still hung in the room. They hadn't been spoken but they were there.
I had had a great night with Scarlett, but I wouldn't be willing to risk all my work for a girl I had known for two nights. I had been working so long to find more about the quarries, to have enough to free the stollen souls. Each crystal gave me more towards the goal. Even with her deep red lips, curly hair, luxurious laugh...She didn't mean much, especially when I thought about what I really wanted.
She hadn't pushed for me though. The only thing that made her interesting especially to me, was that she could mean business. So could I.
Why not test the kepper a litte? After all his life could use some excitement. The keeper might have known a good amount of information about me, but he didn't know everything. Motives can be just as mysterious as he can be.
