Chapter 9 - Hugger

She runs through the forest, her blood red cloak following her through the icy woods. Little snowflakes fall and land on her skin, yet she does not shiver.

She can't feel the cold, since she is already so.

She hears the small pitter-patter of paws on the snow and she quickens her pace, moving through the trees like a tongue of fire.

Wolves stalk her, watching her with their haunting yellow eyes, coats blending in with the snow covered ground.

One wolf charges at the lady, teeth bared into a snarl, painting loud. The wolf growls, yet the lady does not break her stride.

The wolf leaps into the air, ready to pounce on the lady, but she has other plans. She ducks, rolling onto her back and holding her arm up, grabbing the wolf by the scruff it's neck, then swinging up her machete, disconnecting it's head from it's body as blood sprays into her. She drops the body, standing, holding the wolfs head and looking into the eyes of the wolves that surround her.

She wears a grey, torn dress and thick brown boots. Two shoulder pads, one covered in fur, and a belt that holds her machete which is now gripped in her hands. A sword strapped to her side, and another strapped to her back. Her cloak whips around in the chilly breeze, flickering like flames.

She growls, her eyes concealed by the hood.

The wolves all growl, taking a step forward.

The lady throws the wolf head to the ground, right in front of some of the wolves.

"Let this be a warning to you" she hisses. "You cross paths with me, and you die painfully."

The wolves growl, but they step back, slightly bowing their heads.

The lady runs off, the cloak flickering like a flame as it follows her.

She disappears from view.

~•~

I sit up, sweat lining my forehead.

Dreams. I absolutely hate them.

Groaning, I sit up and look outside to see that the sun hasn't even risen. I turn and I see Hiccup sleeping peacefully on the floor. The two Night Furies are huddled in the corner, asleep as well.

Morning flight it is then.

Jumping up, I strip off my boots and I tip toe down the stairs, not making a sound. As I get to the last step, I hear crying. I freeze, slowly turning around and I can hear the noise coming from Valka's room.

Is she crying?

I slowly make my way towards her door and I peer inside. Valka is on her bed, head in her hands, her back to me.

"Why" she sniffles. "Why Stoick? Why Harmony? Why did you take the Harmony out of my song. Why?"

Harmony?

I just stand there, looking as Valka sobs, her shoulders shaking. Her hair is a mess and her clothes are dirty, like she hasn't washed them in a while.

"Why?" she sobs. "Tell me Odin. Why?"

"Valka?"

She turns to me, her eyes slightly widening as she sees me standing there. "Did I wake Hiccup up?"

I shake my head. "No, you didn't. Are you...okay?"

She wipes her nose. "I'm fine. I'm just grieving."
