LChecking into the local motel she'd decided to wait a couple days before moving forward. Something felt off about this job and she always trusted her gut. Even with how it had fallen in her lap didn't sit well. So she'd watch and see how things played out.
Hitting the diner for a late lunch had been
she'd been a little amazed at how much she'd learned in such a short time. Place was a gold mine of gossip from both the patrons and the staff. By the time she was done her burger L knew the basics on the club and their local businesses. With nothing better to do with her evening she opted to do a bit of watching. Something really didn't feel right about this. The hirer process had been about the same. One party contacted L's boss who would then handle the financial end of things. All she would recieve was the targets information. The how and when left to her to decide as long as the job got done. This time bossman had forwarded specifics.
The hit was to look like an accident and she had a deadline. Should she meet that deadline a bonus would be recieved. And for the boss to agree the bonus had to be sizeable. Doing her regular background on the target L was a little surprised at what she found. Other than the womens connections to the MC in both New Orleans and South Carolina there was nothing. No reason she could possibly see that someone would want her dead for. L could only guess it was meant to hurt someone else or the clubs power structure.
Sure she was a hired hitman but even L had her own code. She'd agreed to take the job but that didn't mean it was a done deal in her book. Bossman knew that but would keep it from the customer. If needed she'd make it look like the job was done. Then she'd help the women disapear. L had done it in the past once or twice and she kinda believed it balance shit out for her.
Dressed in casual street clothes L walked down main street to get a feel for the small town. It's footprint. Then cutting through an alley she kept to the shaddow as she got her first look at the little tattoo shop. She saw two bikers pull around pack about thirty minutes apart. Another who had entered through the front. For close to two hours she watched. Having heard they did walk in's she'd been debating breaking cover to get some ink done. To them she'd just be another client. She say she was passing through and killing time.
L was about to step out of the alley with that plan in mind when the front door of the shop openned up. The guy who'd gone in about the front earlier was joined by another. Thanks to the glow of the shop lights and overhead street lights L was able to see both men clearly. Recognition had her mentally cursing and slowly creeping back down the alley way. Only when she hit the now deserted main street did she pull her phone out.
"That was quick" Bossman answered as it was routine that she wouldn't call in till the job was done. But fuck this wasn't a regular job and she'd been right to trust her gut. The second man who'd stepped out of that shop wasn't just some man.
"Not doing it. That's between us for now. My brother's here." she informed and they'd worked together long enough that Q knew of her family and connections. Oliver's presence may not mean the family was invovled. Hell she didn't believe in coincidence but she was irish enough to not mock fate and the way it manifested.
"How you playing this?" Q questioned seriously and without a stitch of emotion beyond curious.
"What do you think the odds are that we weren't the only contract? I've had an off feeling about this since you mentioned the bonus and timeline required" she stated trying to get a second opinion on her main concerned. Back up hits were often put into play at the same time as the main hit just to insure success. If that was the case here it would limit L's options moving forward.
"Likely" Q simply offered
"Then i watch and if needed I'll break cover. But if Oliver catches a glimpse of my that covers blown and I'll have a butt load of heat on my ass." she ground out counting off the years since she'd last had contact from anyone in the family. Her choice not theirs.
"Keep me posted" Q simply replied then cut the call.
She needed a plan and quick. Hitting the local grocery store for snacks and booze L headed back to her hotel. Drink and sleep on it was the current plan. Back at the motel L got into comfy clothes and had just pored the first drink when a knock sounded on the door. Gun in hand she checked the peep hole then banged her head against the door a couple times.
"Dont do yourself harm lass. Open the door" his voice called out muffled but clear enough. Stepping back L cursed herself for not considering another one of her kin would be close by. Fuck she'd known the connection and still hadn't considered.
Irish
On his way to Perky's to meet up with Reaper and some of the guys he'd caught site of her exiting the grocery store. Near crashed he'd been so shocked. Sure he didn't see his Mulligan kin often but she was the spitting image of her momma. And from last word from the family Lia had been missing close to five years.
Seeing her walk in the direction of the motel he's left his bike and followed on foot. Watched to see which room she entered he waited a couple minutes before aproaching. No fucking way was this a freak coincidence that she was in town. Question he needed answered was why.
Knocking he was standing waiting when he heard three muffled thumps on the other side of the door. Couldn't help the smile on his face as he warned her not to do harm to that pretty little head of her. In his memory he had an image of a little raven cuties with big eyes and a carefree nature. The women who openned the door didn't connect at all to that image. She may also look like Aunt Neala but she had the cold green eyes of her fathers.
"Gideon" she quietly greeted then stepped back to let him in. Taking the room in quickly he saw her bags still packed and the open bottle of Jameson on the desk. Going over he pored another glass for himself then handed her the one already pored.
"Now lass, last I heard you were missing and your momma thinks your dead. So best ya be explaining how you're here now." he ordered sitting in the rooms lone chair and leaving her either the bed.
"I'll answer and tell you everything but I need a promise that for now it stays between us." she shot back downing the glass of whiskey and moving to pore another. Playing along he agreed but didn't promise. He was a man who made few so that he was never faced with breakin one.
"Fine get on with it then" he simply stated getting comfortable.
"First reason I'm here is for a job. I was hirered to kill Sin. Second I'm not going too as the deal felt hinky from the beginning. Now I'm sticking around to stop whoever they also hired because I wasn't the only one" she shot out passing between the bed in door as she made the confession and shocking the shit out of him. Fuck.
Downing his own glass he refilled and shot it back twice before his brain would stop rattling. Double fuck.
"What the fuck are you doing killing people in the first place miss?" he near yelled before recalling where they were and recieving a withering look from Lia.
"That's a longer story which I'll tell you but I need your silence for now. Also information on the situation so I can get an idea on what I'm dealing with" she fucking bargained and left him with few flippin options. It was a clusterfuck and in the end he'd be lucky if her ma didn't shoot him dead. Aunt Neala had a good strong irish temper she did.
"Fine but we tell Oliver. That ones none negotiable lass. If I'm gonna take heat from the family, I'm not going down alone" he demanded
"Fine but give me 48 hours to watch. I'm good Gideon. I can help" she pleaded and damned if he didn't fold under her pleading eyes.
"Fine 48 hours, now start the telling of where you've been these past five years lass" he coinceded then poring another sat back to listen.
Note:
Okay needed to set this one up. You'll see why soon enough.
