Those stories.
The ones where the authors leave no room for interpretations, how they make things explicitly clear.
It left no room for imagination.
Especially romance novels. What a bore. Yet somehow you had so many stacked amongst your shelves. Your room was a mess. Clothes littered the carpeted floor, your (f/c) bed sheets thrown messily to the side, and your books scattered in different corners of the room.
Empty cups and cans, bowls and plates were placed on your writing table. You should really clean up. But you were determined. You had to complete this book.
It was an assignment, where you had to write a story for your class. To be fair, you never disliked Literature. You always found the way author's write fascinating, the way that each author manage to find ways to grasp ahold of the reader's attention.
Your teacher had instructed you to write a story - a romance story, since you had been studying famous love stories throughout the term. Since this was an abnormally large task, you had been given a few months to structure the story.
You didn't mind writing, but it always felt so weird writing about things you had little to no experience in.
It made no sense.
It was so confusing.
"(Y/n)! Hurry your ass up!" A loud voice called from outside of your room. You groaned, your face planted into the cool surface of your desk.
You were instructed to submit this story in a few months.
How the fuck were you going to write this in a few months.
You heard your door open, followed by a sigh. "Your room is disgusting. How can you live like this?" You clicked your tongue. Your older brother, Ajax, was a pain in your ass. He always found ways to torment you. Though, occasionally he meant well.
Not often though.
He had black fluffy hair, along with a few stripes of brown, light brown eyes, (s/c) skin and a scar above his lip. He brags about it to others, saying how he got his scar in a fight, when really he accidentally fell and cut himself when he was younger.
What an idiot.
You looked over at him. He had already done his makeup, his long winged eye liner looking neat as per usual. He wore a black turtle neck, along with a choker. He wore black torn jeans that were covered in chains, as well as boots with huge platforms.
They made him look so much taller. It pissed you off.
"Did you seriously stay up all night doing work? Nerd." He smirked, laughing at the sight. You waved your hand at him, gesturing for him to leave. "Can you get out now." You asked, sitting up and rubbing your eyes.
"Mmm.. What time is it anyways?" You asked, your eyes searching for your phone. "About that, it's a Monday, seven thirty. You slept in."
.
.
You didn't even say a word as you pushed your chair and hopped out of your seat and straight to the bathroom, where you brushed both your (h/l) (h/c) hair and teeth, then back to your room. Your brother was leaning over your desk, reading your story.
"Hey! Get out!"
"Wow, this is shit."
"I said get out! I need to go change! Go bother someone else!"
"Fine, fine. I can see when I'm not wanted." He held up his hands in defeat, dramatically sighing. "Good for you, now get out."
He then dropped the dramatic act and rolled his eyes. "You're no fun." He said, exiting your room.
You opened your wardrobe and took out a (f/c) turtleneck and a t-shirt of your favourite band, followed by blue jeans. You quickly stripped and put on your clothes, dumping yet a new pile of clothes onto your floor.
'I'll clean it up later. Probably not.' You thought as you gathered up your notes, and stuffed them into a bag. You then remembered your phone. You quickly looked around for it before you heard a buzz from your bed.
You threw off the covers and looked. A text from your parents. Delightful.
Maybe you really should clean up.
Whatever. Not the time.
You threw it into your bag and ran out of your room to the front door. Your brother stood there with hands in his pockets as he stared out the window. "Alright, ready?" He asked as he opened the door. "Have everything? Though, knowing you, you at least forgot something."
You glared at him. "Ha ha. Aren't you just a comedian."
He held up his hands. "I try." You playfully hit him as you opened the door. It was sunny outside. What a relief. That'll make walking to school a lot easier. Your parents usually left for work early, so neither one of them could drop you off nor pick you up. it was a little annoying, but you could manage it.
You heard the click of a door knob, followed by a hand gently ruffling your hair. "Ready to go?"
-
You and your brother slowly approached the school in a comfortable silence. Your brothers eyes were glued to his phone while you were wrapped up trying to figure out how you were going to write this story.
It's been bothering you for days. You were considering asking your teacher. Imagine how awkward that would be. No. Nope. Not a chance.
Your thoughts were interrupted by two hands being placed on your shoulders. You jumped midway in air, startled at the sudden contact. You turned around, expecting to see a mischievously grinning Ajax, only to be met by a rather tall skeleton.
"OH! I'M SORRY HUMAN! I THOUGHT YOU WERE SOMEONE ELSE!" A loud voice erupted from the skeleton.
By now, Ajax had stopped to turn around to see what was holding you up. "Ah, please. Don't worry ab-"
"Hey, is he causing you trouble, (Y/n)?" Ajax interrupted, putting an arm over your shoulder. You clicked your tongue in disgust and pushed him off. "Yes, Ajax. I'm fine." You snarled.
Monsters had only recently made their way to the surface. Of course, humans had mixed opinions on them. Some believed that they were no threat to humanity, how they should have the same rights and be allowed to live their life freely. Others disagreed. Others believed that they were vile creatures that should be locked back in the underground or worse - slaughtered.
Your brother didn't exactly want them gone, nor murdered, but he didn't trust them.
It disgusted you how he only based his opinions on their appearance. However, you do try not to blame him entirely. Your parents had manipulated him into thinking that, into scaring him.
"AH, I'M SORRY HUMAN. I MUST BE ON MY WAY. IT WAS NICE MEETING YOU!"
"It's alright! It was nice meeting you too!" You smiled, waving at the skeleton.
He laughed in a weird way - also cute but still weird? - and ran off.
Your smile quickly faded once you turned to look at your brother. "What the fuck was that about." You snarled. He shrugged his shoulders innocently, then ran his fingers through his black hair. "Dunno, he might be dangerous." He said casually.
You almost let out a sarcastic laugh. "Oh please. He looks like he can barely hurt a fly." You scowled. Ajax sighed, pulling you closer to him. "I just wanna keep you safe."
You once again pushed him off of you and increased your pace.
You then walked to school in a painfully awkward silence.
