I walked up to my friend, Jiko, and looked at her gagras. The yellow sides of said fruit pulsing made me jump back.

"Stop staring at my food if it freaks you out, plus you jump high"

"I know Jiko, you just have alot of foreign food"

"For you, this is common Felsh food"

"Felsh?"

"Felish is the holiday where familys come together and sing to our god Ushi"

"Ohhh. Having a alien is fun as a friend"

"You say so"
She rolled her eyes and grabbed her fork, taking a bite of the pulsing fruit. I heard a slight scream from it and the cringe filled my body. My friend was a alien from Delohi, a newer planet in our system. Jiko always had abnormal food,  like when she brought some sushi with a crab in it. That was similar to some crab food they had back there.

I always felt like I was annoying her but soon she came up to me and looked a bit anxious.

"Uhm, Em?"

"Yes"

"What is gender?"
This question took me back, as we always asked about food and culture.

"Gender is how you feel part of you is I guess? Many feel like what their born as"

"My species has no born features, they grow over time. What is it like to have a 'sex'"
I was taken back again and Jiko looked like she made a mistake but I shhed her and did my best.

"You usually get treated one way, and grow differently as a child. Things may be different too"

"Ohhh, like two core mini-species?"

"One way to call it. And yes"

"I think I wanna try to pick one. We don't share similar features so it's hard. Could you help?"

"Yes, everyone sometimes questions who they are in that sense"
I was glad she wanted to try and learn about more things then culture, and maybe Jiko could learn about herself.

It had been a few days and I hadn't heard from Jiko at all, until she bumped into me at school.

"Sorry for leaving Em"

"It's ok"

"I think I'm Aporagender"

"What is that?"

"Like, being another gender. Not male or female"

"Oh, I see. Did you change pronouns?"

"I really like the sound of she/her and anything like it"

"Ok, I just wanted to know"

"Thanks for the concern! Are you any different?"

"Uhm-no, I use she/her too"

"Ok. I wanted to know because many people use different ones, like they and zir"
Jiko gave me a hug and I was glad she found out what she wanted to.
