Cassandra's Pov:
It's a friday afternoon after school, while some people are rushing to find last minute costumes for the Halloween party at school later, I'm sitting on my couch waiting for Edward to shoot me a text that he's here to pick me up. He wants to take me for a walk to show me what he means by he shines like diamonds in the sun. I listen as his tire screeches against the street as he makes a stop in front of my house. "You would be the one to speed while driving." I mumble to myself but he hears me nonetheless. "It's the only fun way to drive." He says as I get into the passenger side of the car. "You could pretend to be human for just a little while." He laughs in response as I shut the door. Considering we're going to be running through the woods, I decided to dress more comfortably rather than to fit in with the humans around me. "Now, what's the fun in that?" He asks as he speeds down the road, I don't tell him to slow down and we don't bother with seatbelts because we don't need them. "Have you spoken to Lia?" I ask, wondering if they planned out their halloween costume they're the only two without plans or a date so we decided they could go together. "I would've been your date hands down but Stefan beat you to it a few days before you arrived." I state somewhat apologizing. "We spoke, well she spoke, I mainly listened and nodded."
"So what are you two going as?' I ask as he parks outside off the edge of the woods and he steps out, disregarding his jacket in the backseat, not having a worry in the world. He's wearing black jeans and a white t-shirt. "You'll have to wait and see, It's a surprise." I follow him out of the car and into the woods, the sunlight seeping through branches and leaves that are starting to fall to the ground. The light hits his hand and I could see a hint of sparkle but he shoves his hands into his front jean pockets before I could get a good look at him. He seems insecure in who he is, this is so unlike the guy I remember when we were just kids, he was always carefree, pushing me to be myself but it seems the roles have switched in our time of being separated. He isolated into a shall while I came out of mine. Once we reach the other end of the woods, we sit on an edge of a rock that hangs off of a mountain, a beautiful image of the small town below us surrounded by trees and animals only seen by the eyes of a vampire, from here a human wouldn't have the same view or experience. He looks at me, finally letting the sun shine down on his face, and I smile. I've never seen a vampire like this before, it's fascinating.
"It's a good look. Maybe you could go as yourself for the dance" I tease, nudge him lightly and he shakes his head. "I used to think of this as the skin of a killer, a monster." He explains, "You and me both." I explain, no doubt I'm a killer, I was a ripper for a long while. "But, this is beautiful compared to," I point to my eyes, veins become visible, and my teeth come out as if I were about to feed.
