Marikuu had waited for Ryou for the past 30 minutes. "If only I got the twerps number.." he muttered. Even if he did, Marikuu's phone was dead, so there'd be no use of that right now. Marikuu looked up at the sky, and the sky looked back at him, with its orange and red hue and white but pinkish clouds. Maybe he set me up? Marikuu could get behind that. Sure, he'd most definitely kick Ryou's ass for wasting his time in such a way, but he'd understand why. Maybe he was too scared to come? That was the thought that made Marikuu frown. He hated when people would offer to hang out or something along those lines with him, only to find out they were too chicken to show up. Marikuu understood and rather liked that he was scary, but not enough where people waste his time because they're afraid.
A cold breeze blew along Marikuu's body, causing him to shake slightly. It was getting cold, and it was 6:21 PM on a Monday. Marikuu wanted coffee, or he'd go home this instant, miserable and thirsty. "Mother of Ra, wherever he is and whatever he decided to do without telling me, I don't care. I'm going home." Marikuu zipped up his hoodie and began to walk back home, all until the poor boy had finally found Marikuu, and ran up to him in panic (and out of breath.) "I'm so sorry!! I was going to get here on time originally, but then Bakura started bothering me about him and Marik, and then we needed more milk so I ran to the store to get some, and then I couldn't find the parking lot and-" Marikuu interrupted him by clearing his throat, loudly. "You're lucky you caught me at last minute, squeak. I was just on my way back home." Marikuu's lavender eyes were almost like they were piercing into Ryou's soul, and he couldn't tell if he liked it or was terrified. Ryou sighed, breaking their gaze into each others inner selves by looking to his side, at the faded concrete of the sidewalk. "I know.. and I know I should've just given up, but I couldn't have. Even if I felt the need to, I can't ever stand someone up. It goes against my morals. Plus, I think you want coffee just as much as I want some tea." Marikuu gave a cocky smile. "You're right, and I would've kicked your ass tomorrow. Ra, I still might."  Ryou gulped.

"Yeah, I deserve that one." he laughed.

Ryou sat down on the chair across from Marikuu, taking in the lovely scent of the diner. The smell of brunch and coffee filled Ryou's nostrils, making him even more thirsty than he already was. Ryou had glanced all over the diner once he had sat, but he then glanced at Marikuu.

Okay, maybe the glance turned into a stare.

Ryou could describe how Marikuu looked like he was the author of a book; he sat slouched, with his dark lavender eyes locked onto his phone, as his blonde spiked hair that flew up would flow back and forth with the roof fan every now and then. He had a normal black hoodie on, and a spiked collar that pretty much screamed, "fuck off or I'll kill you." His jeans were ripped and black as well, but the outlines of the rips were a magenta, meaning that the rips were either on purpose or Marikuu just wanted to make something he ruined look nice. Chains hung from his pants as well. His hands were big and muscular, maybe to some people meaning that Marikuu had more of an advantage for fights, but to Ryou, maybe Marikuu's hands being big was nothing but a mere disguise. Maybe Marikuu was a very gentle person. Clearly, Ryou had stared for a little too long, because he looked back up at his eyes and Marikuu stared back, giving the look of "What the fuck dude?"
"Were you fucking staring at me?" Marikuu questioned. Ryou's daydreaming had ended once again, and he began to stammer. "N-No, I was- no i-it wasn't like th-" Marikuu cut him off. "God you get weirder and weirder. It's okay to admit it, I'm a wreck. Not really a 'dress to impress' person." Ryou sighed in relief and sunk back into his seat. The waiter had finally come to their table to take the two young males orders, breaking the awkward moment between them. Ryou had calmly ordered a plain green tea, (which made Marikuu snicker), while Marikuu ordered just  a normal black coffee. The waiter walked off with a, "I'll be back with your drinks soon!" while Ryou looked back at Marikuu. "So, you like your coffee bitter?" Marikuu nodded. "Sweet coffee makes me feel gross, I don't really like sweet things unless its something like a muffin, or something along those lines." Ryou kept that as a mental note, "just in case."
Marikuu stretched and sighed. "I guess this is the part where we tell eachother about ourselves, huh? Like awkward weird main characters? You go first, and I'll just go along with it." For a guy who's a complete dick to anyone he meets, Marikuu didn't seem that cocky or rude. Weird, just a coffee date could get him to be polite. Ryou pondered for a minute, wondering where to start. "Well, I like to read, I'll read almost anything.. though I love to read about ghosts and other occult kind of things." Marikuu's head perked up from his phone, but his eyes were still locked on it. "Ghosts? Like, fucking Bloody Mary kind of shit? Ra, you really are a weirdo." Ryou didn't know if he meant calling someone weird as a compliment, but he wasn't one to complain. He continued. "If I'm not reading, then I might just be playing Dungeons and Dragons with Bakura." That's when Marikuu looked at Ryou. "You're such a nerd. And for once, not an annoying one I wanna choke. Do you play it often?" Ryou thought about it. "I try to, for a card game I'd prefer it over nearly anything."
"Anything else?" Marikuu asked. "Like, what about family? You never really shut up about this 'Bakura' guy." Ryou felt cold, even if he was wearing a brown overcoat. "I only really live with him and my father. I used to live with my mother and younger sister, Amane, as well but.." He trailed off, while Marikuu looked at him with interest. Ryou looked to the side. "I'd rather not talk about it." Marikuu's face turned blank, as he got the idea. He started to think about something to say about himself that wouldn't freak the poor boy out. He sighed gruffly, and gave a small smile that you could barely notice. "I don't have the best family life either." He looked to the window. "Me and my siblings live with our father. Our mother passed away right after she gave birth to me and Marik. We never got to experience her touch, nor who she was." His smile slowly disappeared, as he looked down. "Marik's more upset about it than I really am. I'd like to believe that she'd be the only one in the house to like me. Maybe even understand me." Marikuu had finally managed to stop himself. He looked back at Ryou, who had almost the most sympathetic look on his face. Ryou tilt his head slightly down. "I'm sorry. Something like that must feel like a burden, and it must be something that's on your shoulders nearly everyday." Marikuu's heart told him to respond nicely, but his brain got to his mouth quicker than his heart. He quickly looked to his side, nearly sweating. "Anyway, I'm not that much of a reader. I can read scriptures, but I don't enjoy or desire it. It's more like a chore." Ryou perked up. "That's.. an amazing skill to have! How did you learn??" Ryou was very interested, and for some reason, it made Marikuu's heart warm. Once he regained his train of thought, Marikuu had answered. "It was something Father had always had me and Marik study, like I said, almost like a chore. We both always hated every second of it, even if we were just young children who desired to fuck around and play."

"Maybe you could teach me sometime?"

boomp. boomp. boomp.
Marikuu's heart began to race.

Before Marikuu got the chance to embarrass himself, the waiter had arrived with their beverages. She placed them in front of the two males. "And that'll be it for now?" Ryou nodded,  gave a thank you, and said to just leave the bill on the table when she got it. The waiter had smiled softly and walked off. Ryou took a sip of his tea, and made an 'ah' sound like a child. Marikuu found this very funny. Marikuu smiled, and gave a small, genuine laugh. Even if it was small, it still managed to make Ryou red and his heart race, like Marikuu's heart once did.

Ryou looked at Marikuu with a smile, as Marikuu continued to laugh about something Ryou didn't understand the humor of. It was around 9 PM now, and they had finally finished their diner playdate. It was time for the two to run home, and they talked outside of the diner doors. Marikuu had finally finished his laughter, and looked at Ryou. "Gross, whats got you smiling, fluff?" Ryou's hair practically spazzed up, as he tried remove the smile on his face. "Ra you are such a weirdo." Marikuu chuckled. "I guess this is cheerio?" Ryou asked, finally managing to get words out of his mouth. Marikuu's nose scrunched up. "You mean goodbye?" Ryou sighed in joking annoyance. "Yes, and I have a feeling you know what I meant." Marikuu laughed lightly once more, and finally sighed when he was done. "I guess so." The two were welcomed with that feeling of awkwardness again, unsure and unaware of what to say next. Ryou expected Marikuu to just walk off and go home, pretending like nothing ever happened between them, but instead, Marikuu broke the silence. "Give me your number if you want something like this again. If, you aren't still scared of me, that is." Ryou couldn't tell if he was joking, but he laughed anyway. He took out the spare pen he always oddly has in his overcoat, and grabbed Marikuu's hand. Before Marikuu had the chance to object or push him away, Ryou had written his number on Marikuu's middle finger, and put his own name in parentheses. Marikuu had finally pushed him off softly, and looked at his finger. For some reason,

Marikuu's heart became warm again. Was this the start of something new? The start of something that'd change the two boys lives forever?

Whatever it was, Marikuu wanted to push it aside for now. "An oddly nice name for a weird nerd." Ryou laughed. "I'll see you tomorrow at school, maybe?" Marikuu gave that same small smile from earlier in the diner. "Yeah." They had both waved to each other, and Ryou had begun to walk off, into the void of the dark evening road and sky. Once Ryou finally vanished, Marikuu looked down at his middle finger again. His face became red, and the only thing he could get out of his mouth was,

"What the fuck have I started?"
