Oikawa Tooru.

Sound familiar? Well let me tell you who Oikawa Tooru is.

He is a very well known setter all throughout Japan, A wonderful captain and friend, and all throughout a very talented person.

Oikawa is praised left and right by familiar faces and unfamiliar people.

People praised his talent and how he could bring out someone's potential in the shortest amount of time.

That wasn't why Hanamaki Takahiro admired him though.

Unlike Oikawa, Hanamaki wasn't famous or was praised left and right, hell he was only ever recognized as 'A Spiker from Aoba Josai' and Oikawa's teammate.

Of course he didn't mind not being famous.

He knows how hard it is to constantly try and live up to everyone's expectations.

Hanamaki had always admired Oikawa, at first it was because of how talented he was and how famous he was.

But over the years that he had spent with Oikawa, he witnessed a lot of things.

The drawbacks of being famous.

Yes some people loved Oikawa, but he wasn't loved by everyone.

There were people who's minds were clouded with envy.

'I wish as famous as him'

'I wish someone admired me like that.'

'I wish I was Him.'

Those were the constant thoughts these people would have for Oikawa.

Hanamaki witnessed Oikawa get pushed around and insulted as those people's jealousy had clouded their judgment.

Yet even in those times, Oikawa didn't hold a grudge against them or reported them to the teachers who oh so adored him.

No, he let them be.

And when those people realized their mistakes, Oikawa did nothing but smile at them, hold out a hand for them to grab.

He told them:

'It's fine. It's just normal human instincts to envy those who have more than them and wish for more. Don't feel guilt, you acted like how jealous people would. But let me tell you this, you don't have to be me or be like me to be popular or be successful. You have your own talents and I hope you'd find them.'

'You don't have to be me or be like me to be successful'

Those words constantly ran in their heads as their envy turned into admiration.

Hanamaki witnessed this type of scene many many times and his respect for Oikawa wasn't just because of his talent and fame anymore.

It was because of how naturally kind , genuine , and wise Oikawa was. He was forgiving and he even gave advice to those who harmed him.

Hanamaki had stayed by his side long enough to see how Oikawa worked his ass off to get to where he was.

He witnessed how Oikawa injured his knee.

How Oikawa constantly overworked himself and pushed himself harder than anyone else because of one kouhai who admired him.

Hanamaki hated Kageyama Tobio because of that.

Time and time again he witnessed that the kind, genuine, wise, and hardworking person he admired so much was pushed against a corner just because of some kid with potential.

But despite all of his hatred for this child, he didn't hurt him.

Hanamaki didn't hurt Tobio, because Oikawa made it clear that it was just a little rivalry.

Hanamaki constantly, over and over reminded himself that Tobio wasn't a menace to Oikawa.

But the moment he saw the person he admired the most break down, in front of him, constantly telling Makki that he felt he wasn't good enough, Hanamaki just, broke.

Seeing Oikawa, the person he admired and respected, break down in tears, crying like there was no tomorrow, saying over and over again that he wasn't good enough and that he could not match Tobio, broke Hanamaki.

It physically hurt when he saw Oikawa sob into his chest for hours ranting, screaming, telling himself he wasn't good enough.

Hanamaki had witnessed this time and time again.

He couldn't blame Oikawa, that feeling of dread that creeps in your heart when someone is better than you always happened.

And despite Oikawa crying about this to him, the brunette had still, trained Tobio, gave him tips and made him watch as he served, spiked and set.

Hanamaki was just confused at this point.

Why would he do that?

Why would he have the child that has more talent than him watch as he did the things he was good at?

Why would he give him harsh treatment but still constantly give him advice?

Then Hanamaki remembered,

Because Oikawa, was kind.

Because Oikawa had this sense in him that no matter how much talent and potential someone possessed, it didn't make them any less human and that they could learn.

Because Oikawa, was... Oikawa.

The respectable, kind, admirable, wise Oikawa that Hanamaki grew to cherish and love as if he was his brother.

And as the years pass, Hanamaki Takahiro still constantly admired Oikawa.

He gave the brunette his support and respect.

Even if it meant, having him separate from him.

Hanamaki could not bear parting with Oikawa, but it was what he wanted.

And he respected that.

And to this day, with everything Oikawa did, his Cherry Blossom did everything to support, comfort and respect him.

Told you I was gonna make something for Makki.

I hope you enjoyed the fluff/angst lmao

I had to add angst, I couldn't resist.
