Peace

There's a time in the morning, and I have noticed it since the time I was a child, but there's this utter silence. The crickets become mute and the wind's breeze does not affect the leaves and peace overcomes everything around you and for that one moment you believe in the good in the world.

I was basking in that pure silence as I held onto Emilia while she slept. Even her little snores were muted by the silence around us. I could hear nothing and for a creature that coud hear everything, I found that to be the most angelic bliss I could ever find.

But the bliss was broken as I heard pans being organised in the kitchen and I knew Chuck must be awake. Seconds later my door was being opened and Mel's face peaked through. Her eyes landed on Emilia curled up into my side and smiled as I put my finger to my lips as if to tell Mel not to say a word. The witch back out of the door and closed it again.

I slowly released myself from Emilia's embrace and made my way to the kitchen where I found Chuck frying up eggs whilst Melanie watched him in fascination. I took a seat beside her and requested a glass of orange juice from the chef. Chuck rolled his eyes but complied.

His eyes lingered on Mel and I noticed she mimicked his stare until he forced his eyes to return to the pan and she allowed her cheeks to blush. Something was brewing between the pair, I could see it and it left me feeling...relieved? Yes. I was happy for them. I was happy for Melanie. Chuck was good.

Emilia emerged from our room five minutes later after Chuck had placed the food in front of Melanie and the juice in front of me. Melanie had pricked her finger and put a few drops of blood into my juice for an energy booster, she had noticed I hadn't been feeding the vampire aspect of myself very often. I had smiled at the witch and saw discomfort cross Chuck's face.

But that was diminished as I welcomed my mate into my arms and he noticed how differently I looked at Emilia as I look at Melanie now.

"This house is driving me crazy." Emilia mumbled into my ear.

"Then let's get out of here." I whispered in her ear and kissed her cheek.

I got off my seat and pulled Emilia into our room.

"Get changed, wear something warm I think it's gonna be cold." I threw her one of her trench coats she left lying on the floor.

"Where are we going?" She was biting her lip but smiling after she asked.

"I don't know yet." My eyes locked with hers. "We'll figure that out once we're on the road."

"What about the hunters and Nephilim?"

"Today they don't matter and they won't get you, don't worry. Today we're going to have fun." I raced to her and gripped her waist before planting a kiss on her lips.

"Lex," Her hand caressed my cheek. "Fun is the most unfamiliar term in this relationship. You don't do fun, you do serious and protective."

"You think I'm not fun?" I leaned my head back and cocked a brow.

"Baby, I think you're one of the most serious people I've ever met. Doesn't lessen my love though."

"Emilia, you underestimate me." I smirked and grabbed some clothes from our drawers before disappearing into the bathroom. "Be ready when I am or I'll go out and have fun on my own."

"I'm using Darcy's bathroom." She called back as I put the shower on.

"Use Mel's instead, Darcy will peak." I wanted it to come out as a joke but my tone was too hard.

We got ready quickly and I began to think about what taking her out of this house actually meant. It meant no shield, no magical protection. Just me. And I wasn't sure if I was enough. I was strong but I couldn't fight multiple opponents. Was taking Emilia out into the open really a good idea?
