"A mighty pain to love it is,

And 'tis a pain that pain to miss;

But of all pains, the greatest pain

It is to love, but love in vain." - Abraham Cowley.

There were too many, I couldn't kill them all, I would be proving to myself who the true monster was amongst them. I was the monster if I killed all of them. But they kept coming and coming, shooting and cutting. I healed every time but they never stopped. They never stopped.

I was breathing hard, trying to run but they were in cars and every time one would hit me just to slow me down. And I killed them, with my fangs or my hands, I killed them. I didn't see faces, only blurs amongst the trees, they were all nothing to me, only stupid Nephilim who were on the Earth to kill me. But they were doing a poor job, risking their lives for something that wasn't physically possible and even though I knew that, their blood still poured down my throat or drippled down my arm.

Shots rang, dangerously close shots and I zoomed through the trees once more, hoping to avoid them, hoping to spare their lives. My wolf was angry, I was angry but I couldn't control my wolf and her anger was just fuelling my own. I didn't want to kill anybody, that wasn't me. I was a natural born killer but I fought my instincts. I couldn't fight them now, not when my instincts were to run.

That's all I wanted to do, I wanted to run. I didn't care if I survived because I knew I would, but I wanted to get away from them for their own sakes, not for mine.

"Lexi, stop." Her voice echoed through the woods, in all the chaos it was only a soft whisper but it halted my steps and I swerved around to see every corner of the woods, knowing that I had to find the source of the voice. "Don't run, Lexi, stay here."

I couldn't follow the voice because I couldn't locate the source. I was lost and my heart was tearing as I heard her voice repeat those words through the woods.

Until finally, after she had said it the tenth time, a shot rang out and a deathly silence followed.

"No!" I screamed.

I woke up with a start, sweat dripping everywhere and my heart aching as I recalled the dream. Emilia. The voice had been Emilia. I ran a hand through my hair, feeling the knots but running my hair further down, pulling at the knots aggressively.

The dream was a warning. I convinced myself of that. It was why I couldn't be near Emilia, why staying away from her was the safest thing for her. The dream was a warning, it was a wake up call, it was her future.

"Hey Lia!" Darcy called from the living room. I was there in an instant and perched myself beside him. "I'm not trying to sound like the jealous roommate or whatever, but I dug up some dirt on your girlfriend."

"Girlfriend?" I frowned. "What? Lexi?"

"Yeah."

"She's not my girlfriend, I'm pretty sure she rejected me without saying it." I groaned but kept a keen ear as to what he was saying.

"Well for one thing, she's not who she says she is, her name isn't Lexi Williams." He turned the laptop screen towards me and showed me an old sketch of Lexi that I could only guess to be from the eighteenth century. "On here the artist named her Alexis Hanning." He turned to another page on the screen. This time it showed an even older picture that I couldn't even pinpoint the century, it was too faded, it looked almost biblically old. "This one is the oldest I could find though and her name was Alexis Rogers, or that's what it was translated to be in English any way, she's Italian origins, her real name is Alessio Ruggier. But I suppose I'd change my name if it was that as well, too long, too old."
