Jisung knew right then and there that knowing you were going to lose someone forever was easily the worst feeling in the world. It was one of those moments where nothing was enough. No matter how hard he cried or how sincerely he said his goodbyes, none of that could match the pain. None of that would stop him from leaving with an empty heart.
His mind short-circuited; the thought that he was going to leave someone behind to burn to ashes broke him down. Not just any someone. Someone whose world had never been supposed to collide with his, someone who had gone from a mystery in Jisung's eyes to a friend he could trust in completely.
Even with a blade in his body, Minho looked at Jisung with a smile; his final words haunting him. Jisung saw a different man in front of him. Not a man so stubborn to stick to the rumble and broken dreams of the Alley, so determined to keep everyone out of the box he locked himself in. Jisung saw a regular boy who he could have met any time of his life and still connect with the same way. Minho had changed and he truly believed Jisung had helped him change.
Jisung used to always accept the fact that none of his actions mattered. No matter how much trouble he caused, how many rules he broke, how little care he gave, life went on and Jisung blended in with the crowd no matter how different he was. But he had stood out to Minho. Till the end, Minho remembered his dreams, remembered the wish he screamed out every day that was always lost in his endless mindless chatter. That was when Jisung was truly ready to settle to never see a moon in the sky. If he could keep on showing Minho this world, he could settle for cotton candy and 3D movies. He would take it all and not look at the sky again if it meant the months he had known Minho for could continue and wouldn't all disappear like a dream.
But when it became certain that none of that would happen, Jisung did take a look at the sky. Its huge expansion of nothingness pushed down on him so hard, he wanted to scream for the moon, for that little bit of light, because if he had to live in a world without Minho, he wanted something to make him smile because gosh, would he ever smile again?
It wasn't until he climbed down the stairs and was out of Minho's view when his head cleared up. That was when he remembered why he had even gone along with Minho's plan, why he had said his goodbyes so quickly.
It was because he had no intention to truly say goodbye. Seeing Minho injured on the terrace had made him emotional but now, he wasn't going to cry anymore. He and Minho were getting out of this building, alive.
Seungmin, Felix, we made a plan for a reason, and now, Minho's life depends on us. Jisung hid on the third floor, hoping that Minho would assume he had exited the building. Minho's perception had to be down. He wasn't listening for footsteps, he was only giving the suitable amount of time for anyone to leave a building. Jisung simply had to wait it out until... the match would be struck.
Oh god, oh god, oh god, he really hadn't thought this through. It was only when he heard the crackling of flames and the vague scent of smoke that Jisung had to face the inevitable.
I'm stuck in here and I'm dead if Felix doesn't come through with this.
But there was no time for panic. The fire had started on the first floor, so Jisung had time. That was if the foundation didn't collapse immediately and the building didn't topple over. He had to hurry.
His phone! He had dropped it in his hurry to see if Minho was okay! Where was it!? Jisung ran around the room, moving aside desks, frantically searching.
Minho must have heard him.
"J- Jisung?" The voice from above was weak but full of terror.
