For just a second, Felix thought he was in a movie when he suddenly heard Day6's "Time of Our Life" blast into his ears, the perfect soundtrack for the amazing news Jisung had given him.
But that theory immediately got disapproved when Felix instead saw Seungmin waiting for him by one of the nearby stores, looking proud with a speaker in hand.
"I would ask whether or not that was necessary but who am I kidding, of course you thought that was necessary." Felix rolled his eyes but excitedly went over to his friend.
"You bet! You're going to have a great time!" Seungmin said, turning the music off.
"We are," Felix corrected. "I'm allowed to invite whoever I want!"
Seungmin frowned. "Felix, don't invite me."
"Hell no, of course I am!" Felix complained.
Seungmin shook his head. "If I come, everyone will know you invited me, which means everyone will know we're friends and will ditch you."
"Screw that, I don't even want to be friends with half of those guys," Felix said, rolling his eyes again, exasperatedly this time.
"No, you don't get it," Seungmin said. "It's not about losing a few friends. If you invite me, I'm afraid everyone will start icing you out and you'll be outcasted. I can't let that happen, not when everyone is going so well for you. Especially when Jisung-"
"Jisung would never ice me out!" Felix said.
"I know he won't," Seungmin said. "But you guys won't get to hang out as much if all his other friends don't like you. Things will change, just trust me and leave me out of this. Oh, and don't invite Jeongin either. He won't enjoy it, everyone will see him as an easy target at the party."
"But- Minnie-" Felix didn't know where he had conjured the nickname from but it didn't matter. "I don't want you guys missing my birthday..."
Seungmin gave a sad smile. "I won't. You can invite Channie hyung , Innie and me the next day or something. Who said celebrations had to be on the very day?"
"But aren't you and Innie still in a fight?"
"I have a month to fix that," Seungmin said, smirking. "I'll fix things."
Felix sighed. "Okay, if you're really sure about this-"
"I am."
Felix put on a smile again. He hated compromises but it had to do. He realized something. "By the way, how were you so sure that Jisung wouldn't be a bad friend to me? Do you guys know each other?"
Seungmin shrugged. "Not really... but we've been in the same school since elementary. He always seemed nice. Loud, insanely chaotic, but never a mean kid. He can't be easily swayed, I can see that."
Felix felt happy to hear that. He almost forgot that whether people were friends or not, Nila was a small world. If Jisung and Seungmin technically knew each other, maybe there was hope of being able to create a truce between his two friend groups.
The two walked together until they reached Felix's house.
"See ya, Minnie." Felix liked the name, he decided he'd stick with it. "Gosh, after this double birthday bash, I don't think I'd even be able to think about a birthday for another month! But I'm not complaining!"
"You'll have fun, Lix," Seungmin said, also deciding the name worked well. "See ya!" With a final wave, he walked on.
Seungmin felt his smile droop a bit after a few minutes. He didn't like that, didn't want to let such a small thing bother him.
