"I showed you my true colours and you didn't even look me in the eye." -Leo Valentine Aadland.
*~*~*
I fell into a deep sleep in the arms of my worst nightmare.
I opened myself up to him hoping that he would somehow do the same.
But, I should've seen it coming. When I woke up, he was gone.
I walked down the stairs hoping he might be eating cereal..
I even almost went to his room. But I decided against it when I noticed that the house was dead silent.
He probably just went to work early. Right?
The same emptiness as last night engulfed me.
After a few hours of sulking.
I decided to paint my room.
I painted the walls black. But with white rectangles painted on it along with the words 'Art is the last form of magic that exists'.
I literally day dreamt about doing this with Raymond but right now it's either work and clean or break stuff.
I just need to keep myself busy.
Soon the birds stopped chirping and it was dead silent again. The sky was dark and it was the middle of the night.
I was just sitting on the couch, overthinking everything that happened.
Then the door swung open to reveal a rushed Raymond with an unconcious Emily in his arms.
I scurried off the couch as fast as I could and he placed her on it. He cursed and dialed someone on his phone.
I fell on my knees next to her as I gently moved a strand of her hair away from her face.
I could feel his gaze on me as he muttered stuff on the phone. But, my eyes didn't leave the beautiful face of this little girl.. She looked calm and seemed to be in pain at the same time.
As someone rushed in through the door I got up and with one last glance to her face, I went to her room.
I grabbed her brown little teddy bear from the bed and walked down to where she lay.
The guy who came in earlier, turned out to be a doctor.
He attatched a drip to her wrist and got up and walked to the corner of the room to talk to Raymond.
I silently sat next to Emily and placed her head on my lap. With no words said I stared at her face and played with her hair. Until the doctor eventually left and Raymond was sitting right in front of me.
My eyes were still on Emily's peaceful face. Even when Raymond said "She's human.'
After getting no reaction from me, he continued, "She has Lung Cancer."
I still said nothing. I knew something was wrong the minute he walked in. My hair was like a curtain and it hid the tears brimming in my eyes from him.
"Say something damn it!" He shouted at me.
I flinched.
I still remained silent as the night. He pushed the glass vase off the table and it shattered into million little shards of glass. He abruptly stood up and walked to behind the couch I was sitting on.
And I finally looked up. His reflection in the television was staring straight at mine.
