Chapter 23

"The hard thing is not making a decision. It's thinking about the results of what you have decided."

"Luna Maxwell." I said politely. "Kindly follow me. We have a matter we need to discuss."

She nodded, looking shocked and followed me to the doctor's office.

"Ah! Luna! Your son has found his mate." Said the doctor as soon as we walked in.

Nervous, I stood next to Raymond who seemed pretty tense for some reason.

I buried my head in his shoulder as I sighed.

"Oh! That's wonderful!" She exclaimed.

Hope rose in me.

"She has terminal cancer." Blurted Raymond.

I looked up to see her smile drop.

"I'm taking my son away. It's better if he doesn't get attached." She said as she turned around to leave.

"There's a way to save her." Said the doctor, making her stop in her tracks.

"What is it?" She asked.

I clutched on to Raymond's hand for comfort.

"We need to have a blood transfusion. Your son's blood will replace Emily's and hers will be in him." Said the doctor.

"What are the side effects?" Asked Luna Maxwell.

"Either or both of them can die." Said the doctor, with a completely straight face.

"What are the statistics?" She asks. I can see that she is about to break down. It's not everyday you have to decide wether or not to kill your son or risk his happiness forever.

"There's a 75% chance of failure and a 25% chance of success." Said the doctor, being completely honest with her.

"I'll get back to you." She said as she threw open the door and ran outside.

"She won't say yes." I whispered.

Raymond just hugged me from behind as the doctor slammed the papers in his hands on to the desk.

"So.. Mates can be found at any age?" I ask Raymond as I lied on his chest, sitting on the couch in Emily's room.

"Yeah. It happens how fate wants it to." He said.

"How old are you?" I ask.

"24" he said.

"I'm 18. Wow, you're old." I said.

"You should meet my great great uncle then." He said.

"What?" I ask.

"He's 164 years old." He said.

"So you guys live forever...?" I ask.

"Only alphas and their mates, after the mating process is complete." He says.

I nod, slowly.

"It must be hard. Watching your friends die, before you. Plus your body can live forever but your mind can't." I said.

"It doesn't really matter. No one lives that long. The next generation needs to rule and they somehow die. My uncle is the oldest werewolf alive." He said.

"How will Xavier live without Emily?" I ask.

Xavier, Emily's mate and Emily played together today and I swear I've never seen her happier.

"Don't worry about that. For now, sleep." He said.

I woke up to the sound of giggling.

I blinked and sat up straight. Raymond was still asleep beside me.

The adorable sight in front of me made me want to snap a picture.

"Xavier? What are you doing here?" I asked.

"Oh. Hello Luna. I came here to play with Emily." He said, trying to look grown up and he puffed his chest out.

I smiled and then Raymond shifted.

He slung his arm across my waist and let out a sigh.

"Raymond? Wake up?" I whisper into his ear as he blinked and looked up at me like a lost puppy.

"Xavier's here." I said and he sat up.

He faced the boy and nodded at him.

Sometimes he has no bloody manners.

He got up and left the room.

"Go play." I said to Xavier as I ruffled his hair and followed Raymond outside.

"Do you think she will say yes?" I ask Raymond as we looked down from the balcony of the hospital.

"It isn't that important. She's doing great and at this rate she might recover soon." He said.

Joy and happiness burst through me and I jumped up and down squealing.

"Really?" I asked.

He nodded.

I squealed again and leaped on to him. I pulled him into a bone crushing hug and we were separated by someone clearing their throat.

"Luna Maxwell has made her decision." Said a nurse, who later looked away from her alpha and gave me a look of disapproval.

So... There's that.. I wrote it on my phone!

My laptop is out of reach.

So I was saying, I'm thinking of an updating schedule.

Until then I will update randomly.. That might even be regularly..

Now, this is my most important book because i feel it's my best one.

But, I need to finish other books too... So I might update twice or thrice a week.

Or randomly when I think up something perfect for this.

Things will get tricky during my mid term examination but there's time for that.

Thanks for reading and I know I have minimum 30 ghost readers.. Unless you guys read my books 5 times.... Which I don't mind..
